The Shannon Foundation Farm is nestled in a beautiful valley in rural central Missouri. Covering over 100 acres, the animals are given every opportunity to live out their lives enjoying the peacefulness of nature, including spacious pastures, acres of woodland, a pond, and a running stream. The farm is a permanent sanctuary for most of our animals who mainly come from rescue situations ranging from abuse and abandonment, to pets whose owners have passed away leaving them homeless. One of our main goals is to help our animals adjust and grow into the beautiful, happy animals they were meant to be.
At our agency we do two things: Recruitment: We are one of the area’s largest recruiter of foster/adoptive homes because of our partnerships with the local media, including KSDK and 13 local newspapers. Resources: Foster and adoptive parenting is a rewarding—but demanding—job. We offer many supports to parents, including support groups, training, advocacy, newsletters, two resale shops, crisis intervention services, and our Little Wishes program.
St. Louis is home to one of North America’s most successful presenters of avant-garde music, The New Music Circle. Founded in 1959, NMC is the longest-established organization of its kind, introducing local audiences to the world’s most adventurous and accomplished composers and performers, and providing a respected venue for local creative musicians. The New Music Circle is not itself a performing group. It is dedicated primarily to the promotion of adventure in the arts through the presentation of new and exciting music to area audiences. NMC sponsors an annual season of concerts, bringing to St. Louis a diverse host of musicians from around the globe who otherwise would not appear here. These artists often present master classes at local universities to give students and the public more in-depth exposure to the concepts and techniques behind the music. In addition NMC fosters local creativity through performances by ensembles of musical innovators, giving them an opportunity to perform their most adventurous work before an attentive and sophisticated audience. These homegrown affairs may involve collaborations with artists working in other forms such as film, video, dance, and theater. Despite its name, NMC does not limit itself to explorations exclusively of a musical nature: NMC has presented multimedia performances in environments ranging from corporate lobbies to the natural world, and from an aural, visual, and tactile walkthrough installation in a shuttered shoe factory over 40 years ago to audience-participatory “Spring into Summer” events in Forest Park. Additionally, the popular “Circle/Cinema” series at the St. Louis Art Museum screens silent films with contemporary live musical accompaniment provided by NMC.
Many families have been affected by the disease of alcoholism or chemical dependency. Often, relationships with family and friends are damaged beyond repair, and individuals lose financial as well as emotional support. A 12 step program can help individuals with spiritual and emotional recovery while maintaining sobriety. Those who have actively participated in a 12-step recovery program often get to a point where they feel ready to take the next step: furthering their education. This is where The Next Step comes in – we help people in recovery take the next step in improving their lives. Scholarships We offer scholarships to help pay tuition to colleges or vocational programs. Requirements include being active in a 12 step program and have a minimum of six consecutive months of recovery (clean and sober), doing service/volunteer work, being employed and the ability to show financial need.
