Uptown United is thrilled to host the 4th annual Argyle Night Market this summer. Growing in popularity and attendance, the Argyle Night Market draws over 2,000 people on a weekly basis! Uptown United and Alderman Harry Osterman host a weekly Night Market on Argyle Street on Thursdays from 5:00pm – 9:00pm starting July 7 through August 25, 2016. This year’s market will be located along the new Argyle Streetscape between Kenmore and Sheridan! Gear Heads Unite! In 2014 the architects of Mods vs Rockers Chicago made the bold move of creating a ALL NEW event. MvR Chicago had set the standard and spawned many impersonators in its nine year run and we felt that it was time for a change. The rally has greatly evolved from its modest beginings in 2005 with a handful of like- minded Cafe Racers and Scooterists hosting a grass roots gathering on Chicago’s North Lincoln Avenue to 2013 Mega Weekender with the Reverend Horton Heat headlining. The new event was no longer a salute to the rival youth cultures of early sixties England but now celebrates all of motorcycling’s rich culture and lifestyle. This Fall we’re looking to build an ensemble of LGBTQA youth, ages 14 – 23, for our next big play! This past year our Ensemble devised Checking Boxes, which wasbased around the theme of “Immigration, and Being Undocumented in the Queer Community.” Students don't have to have attended any of our workshops before to participate! From November 9th to December 28th, we’ll be holding FREE theatre activism workshops at Columbia College downtown (72 East 11th Street, room 211), from 12:00pm – 3:00pm, every Saturday In these workshops, we’ll be gathering stories, learning theatre skills, and social justice frameworks, and creating our material for this next play
