Mid-century neon signs are in danger of disappearing all over the city of Denver. An example of why this is the case is exemplified in the story of Denver's main street: Colfax Avenue. During the 1950's, Colfax Avenue was better known to many westward travelers as Route 40. As these travelers ventured toward their mountain destinations, they were greeted by the bright neon signs of the city. These neon signs were made with great craftmanship and artistry and were designed to grab the attention of the multitudes of motorists traveling the strip. The motels along Colfax that many consider run-down and seedy today were popular tourist stops in the heyday of Colfax. After the opening of Interstate 70, which allowed travelers to completely bypass Colfax, the once-vibrant businesses along the street began to experience a decline. Today, the neon signs that survive are a reminder of an important era in the history of Colfax. These still-standing signs are in danger of disappearing for a variety of reasons. Reurbanization is bringing an influx of residents back into the neighborhoods along Colfax and leading to a demand for new development. The old restaurants, bars, and motels on Colfax as well as the signs that are attached to them are quickly becoming prime targets for development. In addition, many of these aging signs are in need of repair. It is often more cost effective for these businesses to replace their iconic neon signs with cheaper, lower-quality versions. In light of several recent examples of mid-century signs disappearing from the landscape, we at Save the Signs are doing what we can to encourage everyone to appreciate these signs as works of art that are worth saving.

Various communities of the state presented musical programs and most of the performances were in the Auditorium. An opera or operetta was commonly included in the offerings.In 1921, a company of Denver musicians performed Flotow's Martha in May; of special historical significance was the fact that the two performances were broadcast by radio station 9ZAF, the first time ever that a full-length opera was broadcast.

The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is a branch of the Denver Public Library in Denver, Colorado, in the United States that serves the Five Points neighborhood. The library was conceived by Denver's first African American mayor, Wellington Webb, and his wife Wilma Webb, who observed that the history of African-Americans in Denver and the American West was under-represented. The library was envisioned in 1999 and designated the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library in honor of Omar Blair, the first black president of the Denver school board, and Elvin Caldwell, the first black city council member. Ground breaking occurred in early 2002.The 40,000 square foot library contains three floors: The first level is a full-service branch library of the Denver Public Library with an entry gallery and exhibition and coffee bar areas; conference, meeting, and study rooms; and a collection of more than 35,000 books, magazines, and audiovisual materials in English and Spanish. The second level houses collection archives and a research library including video and audio histories and listening and viewing areas; papers and doctoral theses on microfilm; a research area and study space; archival storage space; and a gallery for programs by musicians, artists, and scholars. The third level is a museum that houses exhibits about the history of African Americans in Denver and in the Western United States. The exhibits include the desk that Wellington Webb used during his term as Denver's mayor.
