The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. But don't be worried if you don't feel like too much exercising! Relay also has games, sponsored food stands, and activities to keep participants wide awake! Because cancer never sleeps, Relay for Life is always an overnight event.

During fall, winter, and spring breaks and weekend trips, Volunteer Emory organizes regional and local social justice-oriented trips that create meaningful student development experiences while Emory volunteers meet needs identified by various agency partners.
For Alternative Spring Break, 13 Emory students of all class years and academic majors came together to participate in a homeless immersion. The students slept outside, adopted a food budget of $7 total and did not shower, change clothes or brush their teeth for five days. They traveled to several agencies (including Task Force for the Homeless, Hope House, Open Door Community, City of Refuge, etc.) entirely on-foot in order to serve and learn more about homelessness in Atlanta. Hearts were broken and eyes were opened as the students connected with individuals experiencing homelessness and began to recognize the nature of privilege and oppression. Students emerge from the immersion empowered to give a voice to our neighbors who are all too often ignored.
