Personal Space

200 Amory St
Jamaica Plain, MA 02130

Personal Space is a transitory, comfortable/uncomfortable art museum, located on one wall in the bedroom of Stephanie Bird, about the bashful territory of self and radical hospitality. True togetherness relies on the willingness to expose oneself. The small, specific bodies of work curated here are achieved with the intention of addressing each other from an inside-outside perspective, tenderly negotiating what is (meant to be or accidentally) shared with what isn't. Throughout this lone/communal pregnancy, I welcome friends and family into the bedroom to view and reflect together - to meditate on the relevance of this habitat. There is a distinct awkwardness in hosting a community event in such a personal realm. The goal of each event is to speak to this fragility and tension within the context of art, conception, body, family, community and the bedroom. At the close of each trimester, a new glossy journal will be published to feature art and literary submissions, garnered internationally on the subject of the public/private dialogue. The publication(s) will attempt to print with relevance to the vital connection between personal and community intimacy.
