Only at SUSHISAMBA will you find a unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, music and design. Only at SUSHISAMBA will you find a unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian culture and cuisine. SUSHISAMBA is born of the energy and spirit of these three distinct cultures; a tri-cultural coalition that took root in the early 20th century when thousands of Japanese emigrants traveled to South America’s fertile soil to cultivate coffee plantations and find their fortune. In bustling cities like Lima in Peru, and São Paulo in Brazil, the integration of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cultures flourished. This cultural phenomenon launched a culinary coup. Hearty moquecas and colorful seviches found a place at the table alongside simple miso soup and tender sashimi. SUSHISAMBA serves these traditional dishes, plus more inventive fare, including sawagani, tuna tataki and anticuchos. Equal parts imagination and history, the SUSHISAMBA experience is truly unique. SUSHISAMBA swung its doors open in New York City in 1999. Since then, the restaurant group has celebrated over 15 years of singular, soulful style and superlative dining, proudly opening locations in Miami Beach, Las Vegas, London and Coral Gables. Beating at the heart of every SUSHISAMBA is a deep appreciation for enjoying life and celebrating with friends. Opened in late October by "it guy" Aram Sabet (of the Hampton's restaurant Pacific East), 49 Grove has already caught the valuable attention of trust-fund babies and high-profile personalities. Why? Because this four room mecca is designed to pamper, with on-site personal security, limos and bottle service at your beck and call - along with some of the city's best food and European music." Time Out New York--February 24-March 2, 2005 "Aram Sabet, the owner of West Village nightspot 49 Grove, offers the usual bottle-service spread...But doesn't blink when asked to procure cigarettes, pizza, McDonald's meals, Chinese food, ice creams, burgers, eye drops, tampons, or reservations at hotels and restaurants in New York, Miami and Vegas…… Sabet paid for a stretch limo to bring me to his club - he uses a company called Billionare Travel Services - and politely removed a gaggle of gals from a bottle service area so I could experience the dual thrill of ousting plebes from a private section and then looking out at a crowd that no doubt wondered who the hell I was." Christopher Street
New York, NY 10014

Christopher Street is a street in the West Village neighborhood of the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is the continuation of 9th Street west of Sixth Avenue. It is most notable for the Stonewall Inn, which was located on Christopher Street. As a result of the Stonewall riots in 1969, the street became the center of New York State's gay rights movement in the late 1970s. To this day, the inn and the street serve as an international symbol of gay pride.Christopher Street is named after Charles Christopher Amos, the owner of the estate which included the location of the street, who is also the namesake of nearby Charles Street.HistoryChristopher Street is, technically, the oldest street in the West Village, as it ran along the south boundary of Admiral Sir Peter Warren's estate, which abutted the old Greenwich Road (now Greenwich Avenue) to the east and extended north to the next landing on the North River, at present-day Gansevoort Street. The street was briefly called Skinner Road after Colonel William Skinner, Sir Peter's son-in-law. The street received its current name in 1799, when the Warren land was acquired by Warren's eventual heir, Charles Christopher Amos. Charles Street remains, but Amos Street is now 10th Street.

Comfortable booths and antique lighting give the bar its lived in feel – informal and friendly. For entertainment, there’s a pool table, and a juke box (when the D.J. is not playing) and Karaoke three nights a week (mon-wed) in our Moroccan lounge. The back room, hidden behind the curtain is a spectacular lounge. Oriental rugs, Moroccan lanterns and the remnants of the buildings original 1880’s windows (now bricked) set the tone. The music – choice selections from the greatest artists of Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the entire world – set the backdrop. And, if there’s ever a “best lounge seating” competition, this place will win. Antique couches, a full-on throne, and other plush places to plant yourself fill the large space, forming a variety of cozy conversation pits. This is the last thing you’d expect to find on one of the most touristed streets in the Village. Our downstairs sister club “The Village Underground” is an exciting, and utterly unique spot. Designed by ICRAVE (of Pangaea fame) this 2,800 square foot venue incorporates a loungy atmosphere with high energy dancing and live Music. The Underground offers its customers excellent bottle or cocktail service. This beautiful hot spot is perfect for special events, corporate functions, drinks with friends or any occasion. All this with some of the best 10 ounce Martinis in the city, and you can see why CitySearch chose us as one the top 10 bars in New York. We go all out to make sure our customers have a good time and are happy. If you want to set up a table for you and your friends, just contact us.

Julius, located at 159 West 10th Street at Waverly Place, is a tavern in Manhattan's Greenwich Village neighborhood in New York City. It is often called the oldest continuously operating gay bar in New York City; however, its management was actively unwilling to operate as such and harassed gay customers until 1966.An event at the Julius bar at 159 West 10th Street in 1966, which is a block northeast of the famous Stonewall Inn, established the right of homosexuals to be served in licensed premises in New York. This cleared the way for the opening of many new gay premises with state liquor licenses. Newspaper articles on the wall indicate it was the favorite bar of Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote and Rudolf Nureyev. In 2016 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.HistoryAccording to bar lore it was established around 1867 – the same year as the Jacob Ruppert Brewery in the Yorkville neighborhood. Barrels stamped "Jacob Ruppert" are used for tables. Vintage photos of racing horses, boxers and actors are on the wall include drawings of burlesque girls as well as an image signed by Walter Winchell saying that he loves Julius. The bar became a popular watering hole in the 1930s and 1940s due to its proximity to the jazz club Nick's in the Village.
