This has turned into a full scale dance event. Its always FREE, donations are greatly appreciatted. A few of us take care of this location by devoting our time and enrgy in the upkeep. We keep the lawn nice, we clean the trash, we destroy negative graffiti. This is truly a one of a kind place for dancers in STL. Nowhere else do any dancers have the ability to simply meet and dance with no competition at all. To network and expand your mind are keys to this place. To some it has become a type of church it can soothe your soul. We are always looking for people interested in helping us out. If interested get in touch with us! I doesn't matter whether your a dancer or not, we invite you to join us. This is not a competition but a freestyle session, a chance to network,an opportunity to challenge your mind and have fun! Come to dance and meet new dancers, share your thoughts, hang out and have a nice time. In regards to food, this is a potluck style event. The more people bring the more there is to share. Donations are always accepted to offset the minor costs of the event. There will be BBQ grills going starting at 5 PM. What makes this special is that we all throw in food and drinks to keep this event free and friendly. Things you can bring that are usually needed: water, soda, alcohol, chips, meat, vegetables, fruits (Chicken drumsticks are a fav so far.) The grills will go until about 8 PM then the lights will be brought out and we will continue into the night. Dj's will play on some Sundays based upon availability. Since most of us work on Mondays we usually have things wrapping up around 10 PM. Please help us keep the area clean. If your willing to help it's quick, simple, and greatly appreciated. *Fire performers* this is a great spot for your to burn. There is a large open space on gravel with nothing flammable around and a upper level viewing area. We can also play tracks from your phone, mp3 player, or you may bring a cd. This is event is open to everyone and highlights the artists! Please come to showcase or practice your talents or just hang out! With everyones help this can become an amazing year for all of us. As a top graduate of Southern Illinois University’s rigorous photography program and a former studio manager of Jon Bruton Studios, Davis combines his expert training with more than thirty years of professional experience in commercial photography and fine art photography to create photographs that are both captivating and original. Not to be restricted to the inanimate, Davis has photographed celebrities including Prince, Michael Buble, Pamela Anderson, Greg Sporleder, and Ernest Trova, to name a few. Product, beverage, celebrity promotional, live performance, catalog fashion, and fine art fashion photography are all represented in the extensive Todd Davis portfolio. International and exotic location shooting experience is extensive. As a respected industry veteran, Todd Davis has been featured in publications such as View Camera, Toy Camera, and the reference book Artificial Lighting for Photography. Davis has also been a guest lecturer at Webster College and Southern Illinois University. His fine art photography has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums throughout the US; Davis is currently represented by Modern Art Etc in Los Angeles, and his latest works are featured in the Holly Hunt Galleries. In addition to photography, Todd also spent three years skiing professionally throughout Europe, Canada and the USA. The Des Lee Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition Two Sides of a 45: Lisha Bai, J. Michael Deane, and Jane Fox Hipple. The works of these featured artists are tethered to each other loosely through geometry and a straightforward manipulation of materials and images. All three artists are alumni of Washington University in St. Louis, and are currently based across the country. Two Sides of a 45 is a purposefully misleading title, as there are not just two different perspectives represented. An interesting dialogue is created when the work of one artist is placed within proximity of another artist’s work, especially when the artists are not expressively explicit in their content. For instance, when Deane’s work is juxtaposed against Bai’s, it can prompt a different “read” than when it is viewed next to Hipple’s work. The title poetically references a 45 rpm vinyl record, a 45° degree angle, and a .45 caliber pistol. Gallery hours for this exhibition will be Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 1-6pm and by appointment. Lisha Bai Bai earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2001 and her MFA from Yale University in 2004. She was awarded a Terra Foundation for American Art Fellowship in Giverny, France, in 2004 and received the S.J. Wallace Truman Fund Award from the National Academy in New York in 2008. She has exhibited work in a variety of venues, including the National Academy, Smith-Stewart at Krut Projects, Regina Rex, and fordPROJECT (all New York); Jolie Laide (Philadelphia); and Franklin Art Works (Minneapolis). Bai lives and works in Brooklyn, N.Y. J. Michael Deane Deane earned his BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design in 1999 and his MFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2002. He has exhibited at Mount St. Mary’s College (Los Angeles); Krowswork and Hatch Gallery (both in Oakland, Calif.); the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery; and White Flag Projects and PSTL Gallery (both in St. Louis). Deane lives and works in Berkeley, Calif. Jane Fox Hipple Hipple earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004 and her MFA from Tulane University in 2008. She also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in 2009. Her most recent exhibitions were at DODGEgallery (New York), Rebekah Templeton Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), and the Boston Center for the Arts. She also has exhibited at St. Cecilia’s Convent (Brooklyn, N.Y.), SamsØn (Boston), and The Green Project (New Orleans). Hipple lives and works in Montgomery, Ala.
