The Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC) is one mile north of Powell on Highway 295 at an elevation of 4,374 feet. Employees at PREC include one faculty researcher, a research associate II, a farm manager, two assistant farm managers, and an office associate. PREC personnel conduct research and provide services to benefit the northwestern Wyoming counties of Fremont, Hot Springs, Washakie, Big Horn, and Park--and beyond. 200 of the 220 acres at PREC are irrigated cropland. Research focuses on agronomic weed control, irrigation, cropping systems, high tunnel production, variety performance testing, transgenic variety response to herbicide treatments, and alternative crops. The center participates in numerous regional research and education projects.
Located in one of the most unique agricultural production sites in the US, Northwest College offers a chance to learn the art of agriculture surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Our producers are committed to sustaining agriculture in the community. Our coursework is laying foundations for all kinds of production types. The Native Ways Student Center is located in room 118 of the Orendorff Building. We are committeed to the retention and academic/personal success of American Indian (AI) and Alaskan Native (AN) students at Northwest College. We provide a home away from home for the AI/AN students, and their families, attending NWC. Our support services include a computer lab, study space and small lounge, scholarship information and information on campus resources and support. We hold monthly activities for AI students. Join us for monthly talking circles and lunches, movie nights, and cultural programs.
