Eldorado Reno is a hotel and casino in Downtown Reno, Nevada. It anchors a network of connected hotel-casinos in the downtown Reno core that included Circus Circus Reno and Silver Legacy Reno and are owned and operated by Eldorado Resorts.HistoryDon Carano opened the Eldorado in 1973 with 282 guest rooms, two restaurants and 10,000 square feet of gaming space with 200 slots and 12 table games. The Eldorado of 1973 included a lobby, registration area, coffee shop, cocktail lounge, specialty dinner house and gaming area. Also incorporated into the property were a convention room accommodating up to 600 people, a swimming pool and executive suites.In 1979, the success of the Eldorado Resort Casino prompted what would be the first of many expansions and improvements. Guestrooms were brought to a total of 411 with a further expansion completed in September 1985 adding 20,000 square feet of gaming area and four new restaurants. By 1989 the Eldorado had grown to 817 hotel rooms and boasted its own on-site bakery, pasta and gelato shop and butcher shop. In 1992, the Eldorado added a 10 story parking garage for added convenience to guests.The completion of another dramatic transformation for the Eldorado happened in 1995. Coinciding with the construction of the Silver Legacy Reno, a 50/50 joint venture between Eldorado Resorts and MGM Resorts International, the Eldorado added a crossover to the new downtown property connected by the first ever micro-brewery in a casino, The Brew Brothers. The exclusive Spa Tower was created, adding 10 floors of luxury accommodations; a 10,175 square foot convention center was opened as well as a 580-seat Broadway-style showroom. A coffee roasting company was added to the list of on-site services and the casino now totaled 78,987 square feet with more than 1,500 slot machines, 55 table games, a keno lounge, full service state-of-the-art race and sportsbook and poker room.

Whitney Peak Hotel is a non-gaming hotel in Downtown Reno, Nevada.HistoryFitzgeraldLincoln Fitzgerald, owner of the Nevada Club casino, began construction on a new 16-story, 347-room hotel and casino in 1974. Fitzgeralds Reno opened in May 1976, at a total cost of $16 million.After Fitzgerald's death in 1981, his widow, Meta, sold the property in 1986 to the Lincoln Management Company for $26.25 million.Fitzgerald's Reno was the last of 4 properties owned by Fitzgeralds Gaming to be sold after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2000. Prior to this, sister properties were located in Las Vegas, Tunica, Mississippi and Black Hawk, Colorado.In 2005, Monarch Casino & Resort, Inc., owner of Atlantis Reno, attempted to acquire Fitzgeralds Reno. In April 2007, L3 Development, a development firm based out of Chicago, Illinois, announced its intention to purchase the property and convert it into a boutique hotel.On November 1, 2007, ownership of Fitzgeralds Reno officially transferred to a joint partnership between L3 Development and RAC II LLC, marking the first time in decades that the property was under private ownership.CommRowOn October 1, 2008, Fitzgeralds Reno announced its imminent closure in November 2008. 470 employees were laid off and the new ownership evaluated options for the property. The lower floors re-opened as CommRow on October 1, 2011 with the world's tallest climbing wall constructed on the exterior, CommRow was designated to have a hotel component but this never materialized and the business model as a whole, struggled and closed down on January 1, 2013.
The El Cortez Hotel, at 239 W. 2nd St. in Reno, Nevada, is a historic Art Deco-style hotel that was designed by Reno architects George A. Ferris & Son and was built in 1931. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.It was deemed significant as fine example of Art Deco architecture and of the work of the Ferris firm. Seven stories tall, it was the tallest building in Reno. It is decorated with low-relief terra cotta work. In 1983 it still served as a hotel.El Cortez was purchased by The Siegel Group in 2014.

In the summer of 2013, brothers Jim and Don Gibson purchased a classic but dirty piece of Reno history, the 43 room Morris Hotel. In 2008, Jim "Jungle Jim" Gibson joined the Burning Man community and was profoundly moved and changed by the experience. Jim, 2011 Temple of Transition project lead Chris "Kiwi" Hankins, Vision (Alon Bar) and a crew of amazing Burners from around the world have transformed the hotel into a giant piece of permanent Burner art and it is truly changing the world. It has space for 19 live-in artists, 13 Burner designed hotel rooms, indoor and outdoor performance venues, and is just plain amazing! It is like living the best part of the Playa all year, where we live by the 10 principles every day. We hope you will come visit and see for yourself, and like everyone else, leave saying, OMG, this is simply the best spot ever, it's like being at Burning Man! Built circa 1911. At the time the house was built, there was little development south of California Avenue in Reno. Originally built by the Italian Benevolent Society and rented to the National Florence Crittenton Home for "women and children in need." About 1925, architect Fredrick DeLongchamps was engaged to do some remodeling, including the four-pillar front porch, turret, and entry stairway. During the 1920s, noteworthies rented 1000 Plumas Street: actress Winifred Westover and western film star William S. Hart; Cournelius Vanderbilt, Jr., and his wife, Mary. The house was also owned by leading Nevada family of attorney Samual Platt from the 1930s to 1965. Mrs. Platt created the lovely gardens surrounding the house. After 1985, the house slowly became a living space no longer and was later approved for commercial use. In 1999, "the Plumas House" became the property of Anthony and Nancy Palladino, who renovated and returned the house to its original splendor, making this beautiful Queen Anne Victorian into a family home of their dreams. Today, thanks to their efforts, Plumas House is a welcoming, unique vacation house option for visitors to Reno. 1000 Plumas Street is managed by their daughter, Susan Palladino.
