What’s your voodoo? Voodoo Café is a new art bar and live music venue in downtown Shreveport. A “Nawlins”-style venue with a menu of live music that you would expect to find in the French Quarter or a hideaway tucked deep into the French architecture of New Orleans, enjoy all the distinctive architectural aspects the club has to offer. Featuring an exhibit that will rotate continuously with original works on consignment from local artists upstairs in the gallery, the venue also houses a top-of-the-line sound system to support a House-of-Blues style atmosphere downstairs. Utilizing flown concert-grade loudspeakers, a digital mixing console and state-of-the-art digital processing, the sound system is unsurpassed by anything in the region. Professionally installed by Tony Martin of Martin by Design, successful touring engineer known regionally and internationally, Martin is also putting a mentor program in place for local engineers to ensure the venue retains the crisp, solid sound that every band strives for. Very simply, our goal is to ensure the Voodoo Cafe: an art bar is the single venue where local and regional artists want to perform. These elements combined with the unique New Orleans-esque décor, Voodoo Café offers a multi-dimensional environment unlike any other 21+ venue in downtown Shreveport. From the outside starts the story of The Voodoo Café an Art Bar with its New Orleans balcony trimmed in Gingerbread style accents. The colors are rich in tradition including the dirt diver blue balcony ceiling that is believed to be a deterrent against flies and insects. As you enter the front door, you will find antique display cabinets from the historic Peyton drug store filled with Nawlins souvenirs made by local artists including one-of-a-kind voodoo dolls! The tour continues as you move forward, passing antique fireplace mantles with simulated fire burning logs for your use as drink rails. Grab a hurricane or a Dixie Beer from the antique style bar to your left. As you move forward through the plantation parlors, relish in the music live on a stage designed to represent the porch of a shotgun house with Preservation Hall style musician jamming in the historic era of blues music: the parent to jazz, rock, funk and other genres. Fabulous, unique art adorns the walls and fireplace mantles. Throughout the venue you feel as if you are touring the art galleries of Jackson Square with one-of-a-kind pieces that show the dark side of New Orleans: the voodoo culture originating from the nation of Haiti. When you browse the art in the gallery, watch live music shows from the overhanging ledge. Need some fresh air? Take a break on the balcony overlooking Commerce Street near the Riverfront. Located in the Red River District at 622 Commerce St., the venue is open Fridays and Saturdays and is available for private parties. Find them on Facebook at Voodoo Café Shreveport, but you owe to yourself to find them LIVE! Our “Lasseiz les bon temps rouler” environment will have you coming back for more every weekend! So come out to party, and feed your dark side.
