While the entire recreation center, including the multi-purpose arena, gym, natatorium, rock climbling wall, and squash canter are located in the athletic center, the "DAC" generally refers solely to the multi-purpose arena.In January 2005, the basketball court was named Cozen Court after being dedicated to former Drexel men's basketball head coach Sam Cozen.At the 2006 convocation Drexel University president Constantine Papadakis announced a 60000sqft, three-story addition to the existing Daskalakis Athletic Center. The project, which expanded to an 84000sqft addition, broke ground in June 2008. Construction finished in December 2009 and parts of the building opened to students in January 2010. The D&M Shop, created as the Design & Merchandising Program’s retail learning laboratory, facilitates hands-on learning in all aspects of the retail arena, affording students the opportunity to create and sell product, develop marketing and signage and execute merchandising strategies through an entrepreneurial experience. Students work in a “real” environment to execute retail solutions through an operational business. Each term, faculty, students, alumni and staff submit product for sale at the d&mShop. The products sold differ per academic term based on submissions from the Drexel community, but include items such as jewelry and accessories, apparel, gifts, stationary, handbags, scarves, and home goods. Products assortments for the retail store and online store vary and are specialized and designed for specific events/dates. These products are often one of a kind or produced in small quantities and are only offered for a limited time.
