TMI works to conserve mountain environments, preserve mountain cultures and sustainably develop mountain economies. We listen to those who live in mountains and work hand-in-hand with them to identify and implement solutions to their most critical challenges. We are headquartered in Washington D.C. with locally-staffed offices in Nepal, Peru and West Virginia. Our regional locations are no accident — we work in the world’s highest, longest and oldest mountain ranges — the Himalayas, Andes and Appalachians. We have an international staff of more than 55 people, largely local residents who are from the countries and mountain regions in which we work and who speak the local languages. We implement programs directly with communities and work with and through a wide variety of development, government, program, academic, and technical partners. TMI's programs now reach more than a quarter of a million people a year, not including the visitors to those national parks we helped establish.
