The Ferrari Kid Story: I was seven years old when the Doctors first cut me open; little did I know I would have surgery every year of my life, sometimes twice the same year. After 48 operations, 3 ½ years in and out of hospitals, 2 years of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, I was blessed to beat some of the toughest odds. However it left many scars inside and out, and unfortunately like so many other kids much pain. In 1987, I went to Beverly Hills, California to see Michael Jackson’s plastic surgeon, Dr. Timothy Miller, which was paid for by the Air Force, thankfully, due to my father’s 23 years of service. When I arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport, I saw a Ferrari 328, I asked the owner if I could take a picture next to the car and that picture forever changed me. I felt like a rock-star…a real celebrity! He let me sit in it and over 20 years later, I still have never forgotten that experience. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou

Awaken Youth Ministry is a student ministry which has 2 core values at the top of their priority list. Love God. Love People. Partnering with students and parents to provide a safe environment, the staff and volunteers work hard to make Awaken a place where teens feel they belong and where they want to bring their friends! We strive to help our students discover their strengths and create opportunities for them to apply their talents in a ministry setting. We offer numerous activities at Awaken to cater to students in grades 6-12. It is our privilege to help students grow closer to God and have a great time while doing so! Our passion is evident with our involvement in youth conventions, camps, outreach events and missions trips. So if you're looking for a place to fill your calendar, Awaken always has something exciting around the corner. We meet every Wednesday Night from 7-8:30. Gamma Sigma Girls is a unique leadership development program offered by Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) in partnership with San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). This pilot program combines the proven outcomes of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience with a college "sorority-type" setting, targeting teen girls in high school who have limited history of Girl Scouts in their family or community.
