A comprehensive, multi-year project is underway to restore and enhance 13 miles of the San Antonio River both north and south of downtown. Take a Sunset River Cruise One of the best ways to see the new art installations along the River Walk Museum Reach is a sunset taxi ride. You'll see the full charm and beauty of the art lit up in the darkness. Pick up a river taxi at convenient stops along the River Walk. The Rio Taxi drivers have tickets on board that you may purchase, or you may purchase them in advance at a ticket location. Find boarding points and get tickets Guided River Tour Explore the River Walk's downtown section aboard a river cruiser. You'll learn about San Antonio's rich history from a professional storyteller who is also the boat captain. It's a great way to learn more about San Antonio and its famous River Walk.

At that time, there was short supply of liquor such as whiskey, bourbon and scotch. There was, however, access to rum coming up the river. Bar owners were forced to buy large quantities of rum, 50 cases or so, in order to purchase other liquor. Through trial and error, they came up with a drink that everyone loved! Pat O'Brien paired it up with a glass shaped like a Hurricane lamp and the drink was perfected! Under the management of George Oechsner Jr., Pat O'Brien's quickly became the most popular bar in New Orleans. The new concept of dueling piano players in the Piano Lounge had everyone dancing in the aisles. The Main Bar was a mainstay for neighborhood friends, and the Patio a perfect place to socialize. Even though the corporation has branched out, the main reason for its success is the fervor New Orleanians have for the place. The restaurant founded in 1946 by Alfred F. Beyer, sits on land first granted title in 1777 by the King of Spain. The Spanish Colonial period hacienda became the core of the new business. The cedar door and window lintels, the fireplace, and thick rock walls, are still evident inside the building. Casa Rio was the first San Antonio business to open its doors to the River and take advantage of the River's setting. Canoes, gondolas, and paddle boats, evolving into tour and dinner boats, began here and helped create the Riverwalk of today.
