The San Antonio Municipal Auditorium was a building located at 100 Auditorium Circle, San Antonio, Texas. It was built as a memorial to American soldiers killed in World War I.The San Antonio Municipal Auditorium was also used as a concert venue.The building was rebuilt and expanded into the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts in 2009-2014.ConstructionThe limestone arena was built in 1926 and designed in Spanish Colonial Revival style by Atlee Ayres, his son Robert M. Ayres, and their associates George Willis and Emmett Jackson. In 1929, the American Institute of Architects awarded the architects a gold medal for the arena's design. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.FeaturesInitially built to honor America's World War I military deaths, the 125,000sqft structure is part of the Veterans Memorial Plaza. The white marble War Mothers Memorial honoring the mothers whose sons who fought in World War I was erected at the corner of the arena in 1938 by the San Antonio Chapter No. 2 of American War Mothers. In front of the arena, Hill 881 South by sculptor Austin Deuel was dedicated to veterans of the Vietnam War in 1986. The 1994 Night Watch, aka Korean War Memorial, by sculptor Jonas Perkins is across from the auditorium's front entrance. Near the Korean War Memorial is the 1995 50th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge plaque on a granite monument.
Brackenridge Park Golf Course is a historic golf course in San Antonio, Texas and the oldest 18-hole public golf course in Texas. It opened for play in 1916 and was the first inductee into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Brackenridge Park was the original site of the Texas Open which held the tournament for most years between 1922-1959. Located in historic Brackenridge Park, the course is one of six municipal golf courses managed by the non-profit management group, the Alamo City Golf Trail. The Alamo City Golf Trail consists of Brackenridge Park Golf Course, Cedar Creek Golf Course, Mission del Lago Golf Course, Olmos Basin Golf Course, Riverside Golf Course, San Pedro Driving Range and Par 3, and Willow Springs Golf Course.HistoryLocationGeorge Washington Brackenridge donated 100-plus acres of land to the city to create Brackenridge Park, the park in which the present day Brackenridge Park Golf Course is located.Ray Lambert's appointment as City Parks Commissioner in 1915 began a new era for Brackenridge Park. Lambert inherited a parks system that was underfunded and growing quickly. He immediately asked for almost a threefold increase in budget (to $60,000), and earmarked much of this increase for the further development of Brackenridge Park. One of Lambert's major projects was the construction of a public golf course. A public course had been advocated by golf enthusiasts for many years as a tourist attraction for the City. There were three other courses in San Antonio at that time, all private. In October 1915, it was reported that the 18-hole Brackenridge Park golf course was under construction. Noted course designer A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design and build the golf course. A clubhouse was also proposed, as well as a swimming hole "so that after the game the players may enjoy a plunge in the delightful waters of the San Antonio River."

Le siège de Fort Alamo fut un événement majeur de la Révolution texane. Après un siège de 13 jours, les troupes mexicaines commandées par le général Antonio López de Santa Anna lancèrent un assaut contre la mission Alamo près de San Antonio de Bexar . Tous les défenseurs texans furent tués et la cruauté apparente de Santa Anna pendant la bataille poussa de nombreux colons et aventuriers américains à rejoindre l'armée texane. Poussés par l'envie de prendre leur revanche, les Texans battirent l'armée mexicaine à la bataille de San Jacinto le 21 avril 1836 qui mit fin à la Révolution.Plusieurs mois auparavant, les Texans avaient chassé les troupes mexicaines hors du Texas alors partie de l'état de Cohuila y Texas et environ 100 soldats furent placés en garnison dans l'Alamo. L'unité fut renforcée par une unité menée par les futurs commandants du fort, James Bowie et William B. Travis. Le 23 février, environ soldats mexicains arrivèrent à San Antonio de Béxar avec l'objectif de reprendre le Texas. Durant douze jours, les deux forces s'affrontèrent lors de plusieurs escarmouches. Conscient que sa garnison ne pourrait pas résister à une attaque de grande ampleur, Travis écrivit plusieurs lettres pour demander des renforts mais moins de cent hommes le rejoignirent.

De Texaanse Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog was een militair conflict tussen Mexico en rebellen die voor onafhankelijkheid van Texas vochten, destijds onderdeel van de Mexicaanse staat Coahuila y Texas. De oorlog eindigde met de onafhankelijkheid van de Republiek Texas.Op 23 februari 1836 overviel de Mexicaanse generaal Antonio López de Santa Anna met 5000 soldaten het stadsgarnizoen waar slechts 180 tot 200 Texaanse strijders waren gelegerd. Onder hen ook de kolonisten Davy Crockett en Jim Bowie. De beperkte groep Texanen trok zich terug in de Alamo. Ze zouden zich niet overgeven en de belegering zou tot 6 maart duren. De Texanen geraakten zonder munitie en werden daarop door de Mexicanen bestormd. Alle mannen werden gedood.Rond de Alamo bestaan veel legendes, waarvan de waarheid vaak hoogst dubieus is. Zo zou Davy Crockett zich tot het laatste moment hebben verdedigd tot de dood erop volgde. Er is echter een dagboek van een Mexicaanse officier gevonden die dit tegenspreekt. Crockett zou in werkelijkheid gevangen zijn genomen en ter dood zijn gebracht. Verder zou William Travis een lijn in het zand getrokken hebben. Degenen die de Alamo wilden blijven verdedigen, dus hoogstwaarschijnlijk zouden sterven, moesten de lijn oversteken. Alle verdedigers, op de Franse veteraan Louis Rose na, zouden de lijn hebben overgestoken. Louis dook bij een familie onder, die later een verslag, waarvan ze beweerden dat het van Roses hand was, publiceerde. Volgens weer een andere legende liet Santa Anna, alvorens het vuur te laten openen, elke avond de degüello spelen, een muziekstuk dat de Spanjaarden in de strijd tegen de Moren speelden om aan te geven dat iedereen zou worden gedood.
Presidio San Antonio de Béxar was a Spanish fort built near the San Antonio River, located in what is now San Antonio, Texas, USA. It was designed for protection of the mission system and civil settlement in central Texas. It also served to secure Spain's claim to the region from French, English and American aggression. It was built by Franciscan priest Antonio de Olivares and the Payaya; and along with the Misión de San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo) and the Acequia Madre de Valero, is the origin of the present city of San Antonio, Texas.EstablishmentFrom the Convent of Querétaro, several expeditions were organized to the region of Texas, an area of great strategic importance to the Spanish crown. With that goal in 1675, an expedition formed by Fray Antonio de Olivares, Fray Francisco Hidalgo, Fray Juan Larios, and Fernando del Bosque was sent to explore and describe the country beyond the borders of Rio Grande, to test the possibilities of new settlements in the area.
