When we first opened over 22 years ago in Bozeman, Montana, it was quality and uniqueness that most attracted our loyal customers. The original menu included a nice variety of delicious pizzas, salads and sandwiches. It has been our firm objective to advance and improve our menu to what has become over 70 menu items. Building on this solid foundation of innovation and passion toward food, we continue to challenge ourselves to develop menu options that provide our customers even more diversity. Our newest MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub restaurants encompass everything we've crafted and improved upon since our modest beginning but also aim to take menu creativity, freshness and selection to a whole new level. While we know that we cannot be everything to everyone as a restaurant choice, we are sincerely eager to become more and more for people. As we venture into new neighborhoods, we endeavor to remain passionate about serving others sincerely and well. Originally called the “Pickle Palace”, the Bob’s building was built in 1944 from lumber recovered from a building destroyed by fire which was located in downtown Sioux Falls. The Pickle Palace was a summer time burger joint, located way out west of town on the dirt road which at the time was called Hwy 38. The original owners sold the property to Ray Starkes and he renamed it to Rays Drive Inn. One night in the late 40’s, Bob Lyons walked in after getting off work from his managers job at the “Nickel Plate” located at 11th and Main in Sioux Falls. Ray’s night manager had just walked off the job, and Ray asked Bob if he was looking for a job. They worked out the details and Bob Lyons became the night manager of Ray’s Drive Inn. In 1951 Ray decided to get out of the business making it possible for Bob to purchase the property. He renamed it from Ray’s Drive Inn to Bob’s Café. During the mid 50’s, Bob had an Ace Signs put up the Bob’s Café sign, it became the main fixed lighted point before the airport. Pilots used the Bob’s sign as a focal point for lining up for their landing at the Sioux Falls airport. Bob met a young lady by the name of Ima at Bob’s Café. They soon became husband and wife and together the Lyon’s family operated Bob’s Café for 50 years, closing its doors in Sept of 2000. Until the early 70’s it was open 24hrs a day and had curb side service (car hops). Around 1990, Bob closed on Sundays and by the year 2000 there were times the store was closed for a week at a time. Ben Weiland was working at Hutchinson Technologies at the time and he could foresee his layoff 6 months to a 1 year ahead. Not wanting to attempt finding a new job at the age of 47, he decided to purchase the business. His family supported his decision and Bob’s Carry Out & Delivery opened for business on Oct 12, 2000. Since that time, the main focus of Bob’s Carry Out & Delivery has been to expand Genuine Broaster® Chicken consumption by delivering it throughout the Sioux Falls area. Ben’s vision is to someday have multiple Bob’s Carry Out & Delivery solo locations throughout the area.

We are so excited to be downtown and given the opportunity to serve you. Our goal is simple - Make people happy. ODE to Food & Drinks' concept is “gourmet in blue jeans”. Chef Bob's food is full of flavor that is sophisticated, but refreshingly simple so it appeals to a wide-range of palates. We will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Chef Bob is a personality you’ll get to know because he loves to interact with the diners. And because of that, we are hoping to open up the kitchen. The additional renovations will mostly be cosmetic (paint colors, lighting fixtures, artwork, etc). A graduate from the internationally acclaimed California Culinary Academy, Chef Bob put his talents to use at many top-tier restaurants over the past 20 years including world-renowned Roy’s in Maui and Postrio in San Francisco. Additional career highlights include prepping behind Wolfgang Puck on his show for the Food Network and cooking for a slew of celebrities including President Clinton. Twice. After moving to Sioux Falls he became the Executive Chef at the Washington Pavilion, Saucier at the Westword Ho and he is currently the Executive Chef at Hy-Vee. Additionally, he introduced Sioux Falls to his in home Private Chef services, cooking classes & interactive, one-of-a-kind, Chef Bob parties. You’ll also be getting to know Frank Gajardo who will be your friend behind the bar and in front of the house. He’s relocating here from New Jersey because it’s been a lifelong goal of his and Michael Flannery’s (the GM) to open a place, and ODE is it. Theresa Flannery will be your morning sunshine and your go-to for all things events and catering. We named the restaurant ODE because an ode often expresses a deep feeling about something. And we couldn’t be more passionate about this restaurant. We are serious about food, but don’t take ourselves too seriously. There’s a lot of fun and flexibility in a name like “ODE” and we will be changing the menu throughout the year. We will have our staples, but then get creative with categories like an Ode to Napa Valley, Ode to Grandma’s Kitchen, Ode to Bacon, Ode to Spring…etc. You see where we’re going here. It can go on and on and we can’t wait to get the ball rolling. We will have a soft opening on St. Patrick's Day and plan to open the restaurant in April. We are currently booking catering events. We will be utilizing the fabulous patio to its full potential. Also, Chef Bob loves, adores, and lives for BBQing. So during the summer, we can look forward to his weekly Grill Out.
