Powell Hall, formerly known as the St. Louis Theater, and Powell Symphony Hall, is the home of the St. Louis Symphony. It was named after Walter S. Powell, a local St. Louis businessman, whose widow donated $1 million towards the purchase and use of this hall by the symphony. The hall seats 2,683.The building is a contributing property of the Midtown Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.HistoryThe building was originally called The St. Louis Theater. It was built in 1925 with 4,100 seats, designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Rapp & Rapp. The theater spent the first 40 years of its existence as a stage for live vaudeville performances as well as motion pictures. The last movie shown in the old theater was The Sound of Music in 1966. At that time, the building was acquired by the Symphony Society for $500,000, through a gift from Oscar Johnson, Jr.. After spending an additional $2 million to update and renovate the theater, the hall re-opened in January 1968 as the new home of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.The building is said to be haunted by the ghost of a man named George. He is supposedly seen in a white suit and white hat and is thought to be that of a former vaudevillian. He is said to play with the lights and the elevators.

The St. Louis African Arts Festival began in 1991 as an artistic and cultural arm of the African Studies Association’s 34th Annual Conference hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. A variety of festival programs and activities were held throughout the metropolitan St. Louis area. Due to the overwhelming response from the broader community to the first St. Louis African Arts Festival, event organizers began to plan for the next festival held the following year. The African Heritage Association of St. Louis, Inc. was established in 1995 and serves as the parent organization of the St. Louis African Arts Festival. It is a 501(C) 3, non-profit organization
The Big Muddy Dance Company, under the Direction of former Houston Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancer Brian Enos, derives its name from the Missouri river, referred to as "The Big Muddy". This river feeds the nation's waterways while having its roots here in St Louis. The dance company is rooted in the great city of St Louis and feeds not only this city but the nation with high quality dance performances. Choreographers such as Lou Conte (founder of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), Antonio Douthit & Kirven Boyd (Dancers with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre), Harrison McEldowney, Lauri Stallings (Artistic Director of GloATL), Michael Uthoff (Executive Director of Dance St Louis), Sam Watson, Kameron N. Saunders, Thom Dancy, Brian Enos, and Brandon DiCriscio (former dancer with River North Dance Company) have all contributed work to the troupe's growing list of repertoire. The company not only offers great dance to audiences in theaters and public venues, but also has developed a senior outreach program to bring quality dance to seniors that may not be able to go to the theatre. "Senior Embrace" produces performances at retirement homes and assisted living facilities around St Louis, as well as workshops with early stage dementia patients. Following their season, the company offers a summer intensive program at their studio, the Downtown Dance Center, located in the heart of the city. The studio also offers beginning through professional level ballet, jazz, and core-barre fitness classes year-round. Classes are taught by company members as well as renowned guest faculty.

Cupples House is a historic mansion in St. Louis, Missouri, constructed from 1888 to 1890 by Samuel Cupples, a wealthy businessman. It is now a museum on the campus of Saint Louis University. The house is designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style.

The Annual Symposium on Medieval and Renaissance Studies provides a convenient summer venue in North America for scholars in all disciplines to present papers, organize sessions, participate in roundtables, and engage in interdisciplinary discussion. The Symposium is held on the beautiful midtown campus of Saint Louis University, hosted by the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. On-campus housing options include affordable, air-conditioned apartments and a luxurious boutique hotel. Inexpensive dorm meal plans are available. Intellectual humility is an intellectual virtue, a character trait that allows the intellectually humble person to think and reason well. It is plausibly related to open-mindedness, a sense of one's own fallibility, and a healthy recognition of one's intellectual debts to others. If intellectual humility marks a mean between extremes, then related vices (on the one side) would be intellectual arrogance, closed-mindedness, and overconfidence in one's own opinions and intellectual powers, and (on the other side) undue timidity in one's intellectual life, or even intellectual cowardice. The project will focus on a variety of philosophical and theological issues relevant to the topic of intellectual humility, as informed by current research in the empirical sciences, including: virtue epistemology; regulative epistemology; peer disagreement; intellectual humility, intellectual autonomy and deference to authority; religious pluralism; divine hiddenness; intellectual humility and theological method; biases, heuristics, dual-process theories and evolution; intersubjectivity and mind reading. The Saint Louis University effort complements the activities and research occurring under Templeton's Science of Intellectual Humility project by encouraging philosophers and theologians to integrate empirical research on questions surrounding intellectual humility into their own investigations.
The Center for Global Citizenship is a 70,000-square-foot center which brings the Cross Cultural Center, the Center for Service and Community Engagement, the Center for Intercultural Studies, and the Center for International Studies under one roof, and adjacent to the English as a Second Language Program, the Center for Sustainability and the Office of International Services located in Des Peres Hall. The Center is available for events, both SLU sponsored and externally hosted, which support the mission to promote collaboration across the University to educate and engage the SLU community for global awareness, responsibility, and participation. The consortium located in the Center for Global Citizenship and Des Peres Hall will also collaborate to offer speakers, programs and events which promote global citizenship. With nearly 1,000 students from more than 70 different countries, as well as nearly 350 students studying abroad in more than 15 different counties each academic year, the new Center for Global Citizenship will help SLU transform students into educated and knowledgeable members of the global community.
The Medical Family Therapy Program is a program within the Department of Family and Community Medicine of Saint Louis University's School of Medicine. It is designed to train license-eligible Master's students in marriage and family therapy and doctoral students who are academicians and clinicians in mental health and primary care settings. M.A. in Family Therapy (medical family therapy concentration): The M.A. in Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It fulfills the course and practicum requirements toward licensure in the State of Missouri as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist. The program requires a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Prerequisites include 18 credit hours in the behavioral sciences. Program requirements include didactic courses, two semesters of practicum, three semesters of internship in a community mental health or primary care health setting and the attainment of a minimum of 500 hours of direct clinical contact. The concentration in medical family therapy prepares student to function as part of an integrated care team in addressing the biopsychosocial needs of individuals and families. Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy: The Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It prepares clinicians to work within an integrated care health setting in collaboration with medical and mental health professionals. Coursework focuses on theory, practice and research in the field of couple and family therapy with an emphasis on intervention in primary care medical settings and as adjunct health providers in specialty care. The doctoral program involves a minimum of 51 credit hours of coursework beyond the master's degree, plus comprehensive examinations and original research culminating in the dissertation (12+ credit hours). The Ph.D. has a clinical component in which students are trained in both mental health and medical settings as part of an integrated care team of health professionals. Students are required to complete a nine to twelve month internship. The Marriage and Family Therapy Doctoral Program at Saint Louis University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Components of the Minor Why Middle East Studies? SLU's Center for International Studies is excited to offer a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. While programs at other universities focus only on the role of Islam in this region in the contemporary era, the Middle East Studies minor at SLU offers courses that examine the roles of Jewish, Christian and Islamic cultures from ancient to modern times. We cover the geographic area of the traditional Middle East and also the areas influenced by or politically tied to the cultures of the Middle East, such as Spain and Africa. This broad introduction to the region provides a strong foundation on which to pursue further study. Language Requirement? This minor requires two semesters (6 credit hours) of university-level Arabic or equivalent proficiency; further language study is encouraged. Native speakers of Arabic are exempt from the language requirement, but must take an additional elective in its place. Students who are proficient in another Middle Eastern language should discuss their course of study with the director of the minor. Capstone Requirement Students will revise a research paper that was originally written for one of the elective courses from the minor. The student will present the revised paper during an annual capstone event their senior year. Courses A variety of electives allows students to tailor the minor to their individual interests. Students are required to take a minimum of 16 credits from approved courses in consultation with the Middle East Studies director. The Middle East Studies minor enhances other international programs offered at SLU, giving students a special perspective on a crucial part of the world. Study Abroad Though studying abroad is not required for the minor, SLU offers a wealth of Study Abroad programs to give students a comprehensive learning experience by studying in the Middle East in order to gain an even better understanding of this region. Adventures In Medicine & Science, (AIMS), is a youth community outreach program that provides health education and prevention information to students throughout the school year. With a combination of hands-on opportunities and auditorium presentations, students get a unique look at the human body. The program offers a prevention component that provides valuable information to students regarding health risks and how to avoid medical traumas. In addition, we offer summer workshops for middle and high school ages.

Allies for Inclusion: The Abilities Exhibit is a traveling display designed to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities through respect for others, comfort during interactions, and awareness of disability issues. Using a multi-media approach, the exhibit offers suggestions for becoming disability allies and educators. What began as a graduate student’s project in a course grew into a sophisticated exhibit displayed on college campuses across the county.
