Chartered in 1934, the Animal Defense League is a non-profit organization that is a true no-kill shelter for abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and cats. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for these animals by providing needed medical care, including spaying and neutering. Food, shelter, and safety are also provided – along with compassion and attention. While maintaining a healthy and loving facility, ADL consistently works to find the best possible home for each resident animal. Supported by contributions and directed by a volunteer board, the League provides programs and services which strengthen the bond between animals and people.

Since EFCST was founded, thousands of people with epilepsy and their families have received information and/or have benefited from the comprehensive medical, educational, and social services offered by EFCST. Epilepsy affects all aspects of a person’s life. Learning to cope with and manage epilepsy takes a coordinated effort by family, friends, teachers, and managers in the workplace. All of the Foundation’s programs are designed to help people reach their full potential and enhance their sense of self worth. EFCST staff provides a wide variety of services to persons with epilepsy, their families and the community. At the Epilepsy Foundation, one of our primary goals is to provide accessible, current information about epilepsy/seizure disorders to individuals with epilepsy, parents, family members and friends. We also provide information about epilepsy to professionals in the community through our in-service training programs. Our professionally trained staff is available to answer questions about epilepsy and its related concerns. LCFS takes the position that every child deserves a nurturing family. Therefore, LCFS expends a great deal of energy in recruiting, screening, training, and supporting families to meet the challenge. Intensive Case Manager-to-child ratios are employed, and an array of services including other agencies and community resources (e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, trainers, etc.) are utilized as LCFS attempts to adjust the agency's resources to meet the needs of the child. LCFS is committed to a team approach in administrating the program as well as providing care and treatment for children. All professional staff members are involved in the screening and training process for foster families and generally, Case Managers are assigned to foster families instead of children, i.e., the foster family is the primary resource for the child; the Case Manager is the primary resource for the foster family; the LCPAA/Program Director is the primary resource for the Case Manager, etc. In this way, Case Managers are assigned to support the foster family as a whole, which includes providing individual support for the foster children in the family. However, due to the belief that the foster family is an integral part in providing a therapeutic environment for the foster child, the Case Manager provides services that benefit the entire foster family. By assigning a Case Manager to a foster family rather, there will be one Case Manager for each foster home, thereby allowing for more consistent and thorough supervision of all aspects of a child’s care both within and outside of the family. Children, who are clients of LCFS, are treated individually, with respect and care. They are an integral part of the Treatment Team. Piagetian principles of development are a basis for assessment; a strengths-based approach for treatment is employed utilizing theories and principles not in conflict with above assumptions. The philosophy for treatment planning in foster care is based on a competency-based approach: goals should be positive. A need cannot be addressed without a strength to solve it; discover the strengths and build on them. Foster families will be encouraged to utilize a behavior modification program in their homes that will encourage positive behaviors, reinforce the extinction of negative behaviors, and provide feedback for new, positive behaviors. Case Managers will utilize such programs as an integral part of treatment planning for children and will discuss progress with the foster family during home visits and as needed.
