Hoping to create a community tradition with our monthly salon and potluck. Lighting the way to heal and strengthen our greater community, creative and healthcare professionals come together to create a healing arts outreach, enriching cultural experience and therapeutic resource network serving at-risk and special needs individuals of all ages. When cancer happens, it happens to the entire family, and social and emotional support become as essential as medical care. Since, October of 2011, there is now a place in Kansas City that is building a unique community where you can come and be with others who know just what you’re going through. Inspired by Saturday Night Live comedian, Gilda Radner, Gilda’s Club provides a welcoming space where all who are touched by cancer--all types of cancer--any kind--and at any stage--gather to support one another. You won't find medical care here. Gilda’s Club is where you, your family and friends will find emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care. In addition to in-person support through Gilda's Club Kansas City, people impacted by cancer in the Greater Kansas City area can also access support online. The Cancer Support Community provides an Online Community to bring the experience of the local Wellness Community or Gilda's Club to you through the Internet 24 X 7.
Protect Places You Love Heartland Conservation Alliance is working to become an urban land trust so that we can protect lands identified in regional plans for perpetuity. We are currently focusing our efforts in the Blue River Wathershed. Land trusts can hold conservation easements, own land and help manage or steward lands. With support from the EPA Urban Waters program, and a Steering Committee representing conservation agencies and organizations across the region, we are developing a long-term work plan to guide our efforts. Convening our Community We are working to convene interested stakeholders to plan and discuss ways we can maximize opportunities and collaborations. We are looking for ways to pool resources. We are creating guides to focus and implement regional conservation plans. Heartland Conservation Alliance wants to help implement and build on existing community plans for regional conservation. Connecting People to Nature We believe in power of the people. We are working to actively engage the public in the implementation so our work will make the place we call home - where we work, play, live - have lasting value. We are educating landowners, land managers, neighborhoods, youth, adults, policy makers and conservation organizations. With support from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we are collaborating with Blue River Watershed Association, Kansas City WildLands, Missouri Dept. of Conservation and public land managers to engage citizens in stewardship of the Blue River.

We think the best way to fight against gridlock in Washington is to start in our home towns. By coming together to discuss politics, hobbies, our families, and whatever else with people who might not think the exact same things that we do, we can learn from each other and maybe even start working together to make this country a little better for everyone. The Kansas City Chapter of The Village Square is proud to present its inaugural programming for the 2014-2015 Season. October 9, 2014 "The Price of Incivility: What is it costing you?" February 19, 2015 "Beyond the Melting Pot: Tossed Salad or Fortress America?" April 29, 2015 "Justice, American Style: Ferguson, the War on Drugs and much more"
