Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center is a safety net hospital in San Francisco, California, and the only Level I Trauma Center for the 1.5 million residents of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. The hospital serves poor, elderly people, uninsured working families, and immigrants. About 80 percent of its patient population either receives publicly funded health insurance or is uninsured. SFGH also cares for the homeless, who make up about 8 percent of its patients. It is the largest acute inpatient and rehabilitation hospital for psychiatric patients in the City. Additionally, it is the only acute hospital in San Francisco that provides twenty-four-hour psychiatric emergency services in San Francisco. In addition to the approximately 3,500 San Francisco municipal employees, the University of California at San Francisco provides approximately 1,500 employees . The hospital, especially its Ward 86, was instrumental in treating and identifying early cases of AIDS. The original brick main building was replaced with a concrete one with construction started in 1971; four remaining 1915 five-story edifices are among the tallest brick buildings in the city. The hospital is located at 1001 Potrero Avenue between the Mission District and Potrero Hill; U.S. Route 101 rounds its east side at “Hospital Curve”.

This is my personal page to describe this fantastic & affordable workout I found right here in the Mission. It is all-ages boxing class for beginners and intermediate men or women or teens 14 & up. This two-hour class that includes cardiovascular training, flexibility, high and low abdominal training, stretching and basic boxing moves: proper punching, movement, balance, & blocking. Included is everything you need to get a balanced workout. http://youtu.be/2Exek8TLKxI The class is instructed by health and fitness professionals from the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, with a focus on proper form, health and safety. You will learn about boxing basics, agility, and technique. Don't worry about fighting or being hit; that will come later. I took this class to add variety to my marathon training, and I know it contributed to completing my first marathon at Lake Tahoe-at 6000 feet above sea level.

From its inception in 2002, BASIC investigators and clinicians have been pursuing outstanding patient care and world-class research to achieve a better understanding of treatment for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Each member of BASIC brings enormous expertise to the Center, and by working together we are creating a synergy that will facilitate translation of fundamental understandings into clinical practice. Despite challenging economic conditions these are exciting times for neurological research and we are building capabilities across the full spectrum of research activity. Major areas of strength within BASIC include: • Multi-center and investigator-initiated clinical trials that take place at San Francisco General Hospital Trauma Center. • Preclinical in vitro and in vivo model development for understanding the biology of neural injury and repair, to identify treatments and for engineering tissue repair through use of cellular and biomaterial implants. • Translational neurotrauma research using a variety of neurological outcome measures for assessing survival, phenotypic differences and effects of treatment conditions on recovery and cognitive function. • Identification of genetic determinants and pharmacologic interventions to prevent or reverse cellular damage. • Bioinformatics infrastructure to link preclinical and clinical data on neurotrauma. • Clinical studies with ICU minute-to-minute patient monitoring to provide a rich dataset for evaluating the physiological course of TBI and SCI, as well as providing a baseline for treatment evaluation. • Coordinated, multi-disciplinary patient care teams for managing ED care, intra-operative care, ICU care and restorative care for severely injured patients. • Access to state-of-the art neuro-imaging studies for improving classification of patient injuries and for guiding treatment decisions. Our investigators serve in national and international leadership roles in the neurotrauma community and are developing categorization criteria for TBI and clinical treatment guidelines for TBI and SCI. The Brain and Spinal Injury Center is a dynamic and productive environment for recruitment of highly qualified individuals for clinical and laboratory training opportunities.
