The World Chess Hall of Fame is a nonprofit, collecting institution situated in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, United States.The WCHOF is the only institution of its kind and offers a variety of programming to explore the dynamic relationship between art and chess, including educational outreach initiatives that provide context and meaning to the game and its continued educational impact. Founded in 1984, it is run by the United States Chess Trust, a charitable arm of the United States Chess Federation. Formerly located in New Windsor, New York; Washington D.C.; and Miami, Florida, it moved to St. Louis on September 9, 2011.HistoryThe brainchild of Steven Doyle, USCF president from 1984 to 1987, the World Chess Hall of Fame was created in 1986 as the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame.Opened in 1988 in the basement of the Federation’s then-headquarters in New Windsor, New York, the small museum contained a modest collection, including a book of chess openings signed by Bobby Fischer; a silver set awarded to Paul Morphy, American chess player and unofficial World Champion; and cardboard plaques honoring past grandmasters.

Cortex is a tax exempt 501(c)3 formed in 2002 by Washington University in St. Louis, BJC Healthcare, University of Missouri – St. Louis, St. Louis University, and the Missouri Botanical Garden to capture the commercial benefits of university and regional corporate research for St. Louis. Since inception, Cortex has completed or has under construction 1 million square feet of new and rehabilitated space totaling $350 million of investment and generating 2,500 technology-related jobs. A new Interstate 64 interchange and public park together with streetscape improvements will be completed by April 2014. When fully implemented, the Cortex master plan projects $2.1 billion of construction, over 4.5 million square feet of mixed-use development (research, office, clinical, residential, hotel, and retail), a new MetroLink light-rail station and 13,000 permanent technology-related jobs.

Since its inception in 1975, Beyond Housing has sought to provide the supports and services that assist low-income families in growing into their long-term goals. Beyond Housing has met the challenge of evolving to incorporate the changing needs of families, communities and the 21st century workplace. While identifying and addressing immediate needs to establish stability, families are also engaged in a comprehensive array of services that produce positive outcomes. Beyond Housing is a charter member of the NeighborWorks®, a national network of community-based organizations that improve and strengthen communities through cooperative efforts with residents, business people, government officials, and other partners.

The Center began in the early 1990s when therapists were seeing an increase in refugees who were suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. In response, Jean Abbott, CSJ, LCSW coordinated an informal coalition of service providers that was formed to address the special needs of these new Americans. An early partnership with Provident, Inc. made it possible for Abbot to provide on-site therapy to refugees and immigrants. In the summer of 2001, CSTWT was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(3)c corporation in Missouri to continue this work with an emphasis on providing mental health services. Today, the Center continues to provide holistic mental health services for war and torture survivors with partnerships of other local community agencies to better serve the needs of immigrants and refugees. These agencies include International Institute, Community Alternatives, Interfaith Legal Services for Immigrants, Immigration Law Project, BIAS, and Catholic Family Services – LAMP. They work with us to provide interpreter services, case management, and legal services to improve the challenges and barriers that can impact positive healing. Our clients come from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Congo, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Liberia, Vietnam, and other countries that are experiencing unrest.

We are opening the Midwest Puppy Contest this year only to any puppy that wants to compete. You DO NOT have to currently be holding a title!!

PURPOSE OF PI-LAMBDA ZETA The main mission and objectives of Lambda Chi Alpha at St. Louis College of Pharmacy is to “To foster a spirit of genuine brotherhood among its members…” and to “To make good men great, great men excellent, and excellent men even better…” We feel that only through service to his fellow man can one actually know what it is to give of himself and to feel humbled by helping those that have less than he does. Our biggest philanthropic event of the year is the North American Food Drive. We believe that no one should have to go to bed hungry, and no mother should have to wonder what she is going to feed her children the next day. That thought is what drives us throughout the year to make each year’s food drive more successful than the year before. While we know there are more “hungry mouths” in the St. Louis area than one chapter could ever hope to feed, it is our driving thought that by helping those that we can, and making as big of an issue as possible about our cause, we can increase awareness about hunger in St. Louis and perhaps the entire country. By doing so, we hope that one day, albeit far in the future, we, as a society, can eradicate hunger from the entire world.

HISTORY The Saint Louis Student Pharmacists Association (SPA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 by student pharmacists of St. Louis College of Pharmacy. SPA was created to serve as an umbrella organization for all professional organizations on campus. Since its inception SPA has grown to contain more than seven organizations (American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, National Community Pharmacist Association, Missouri Pharmacy Association, and Illinois Pharmacists Association). VISION A student organization that enriches the educational experience and inspires every student pharmacist to find their passion in the profession.

Throughout time, people have preserved their culture, values and beliefs through storytelling. Giving voice to the human experience, storytelling allows families and communities to pass on their history to succeeding generations, and it remains an evolving, dynamic art form. The St. Louis Storytelling Festival, created in 1980 and now in its 36th year, renews and celebrates an ancient art. It is the largest free storytelling festival in the world. In its new partnership with the University of Missouri Extension Community Arts Program, this three-day extravaganza, held at multiple venues across the St. Louis metropolitan area, has both featured storytellers from across the nation and regional storytellers from our own community. Stories they share are suitable for all members of the family, and all are offered FREE to the public. We invite you to join us at our festival this year! You can join us at one of our outreach schools or libraries with free programs for schoolchildren (pre-registration required); take advantage of special workshops for educators, families, community members and novice storytellers; attend one of our many public events at venues and sites across the metropolitan area; or plan to come to our grand finale performance on Saturday evening. All events are FREE!

All students can sign up for Home Plate. Ms. Zwerling Wrighton matches the students in groups of 3 to 4 with a local family. The family invites the students to their home for dinner two or three times a year - sometimes more. Many families stay with their students until they graduate - and beyond! Ms. Zwerling Wrighton attempts to match students with families who have similar interests, experiences or backgrounds. We currently have over 300 families participating and around 800 students. Each year new students join as some leave or graduate. In the Spring Chancellor and Mrs. Wrighton host the families and students with a reception at their home.

ASUM is a non-partisan, non-profit student lobbying organization with a mission to advocate and lobby for student interests while educating students on the importance of involvement in government. ASUM lobbies of behalf of UM student interests and provides meaningful student leadership and hands-on learning experiences in the area of policy development, higher education concerns and processes, and day to day operations of state and federal government.

International graduate students Association for Career development And Networking (I-CAN, the formerly IGSPDA) is a university-wide graduate student group registered through GPC and ProGradS at Washington University in St. Louis. It is designed to help international students improve communication skills, build networks, and learn leadership skills by working on group projects with other members in an English-speaking and multicultural environment, thereby enhancing individual member's professional development and job marketability. This group also welcomes English-speaking U.S. students who are interested in enhancing their international experience and sharing American cultural with international students. Learning how to develop careers and organize activities in an English-speaking and multicultural environment is a hard process. I-CAN will create a comfortable environment, provide more opportunities, and make this learning process easy, creative and a lot of fun.
