TCEA is a member-based organization devoted to the use of technology in education. Our primary focus is on integrating technology into the PreK-12 environment and providing our members with state-of-the-art information through conferences, workshops, newsletters, the Internet, and collaborations with higher education and business. Membership dues are $45 annually. These training opportunities are held at the TCEA offices in Austin and can also be customized for and conducted at your campus. Undergraduates Studying Education These $1,000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students who are pursuing a career in education. Professional Educators Seeking Continuing Education These $500 scholarships are for use in attending professional development activities that will increase knowledge of educational technology. It also develops critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving, along with other 21st century skills such as creativity, imagination, curiosity, and innovation. Each year, TCEA provides its members with the opportunity to explore the impact of robotics. Participating students from elementary and secondary schools design, collaborate, plan, redesign, construct, create, assemble, invent, reinvent, write, present, and compete to see who has developed the smartest robot. The contests vary based on strategies that involve speed, accuracy, sensing objects, and light. A programmable robot is limited only by the imagination of its inventor. Students not only have the opportunity to compete in a prescribed problem contest; there is also an open-ended invention contest. Students use marketing, programming, writing, constructing, and presentation skills to find a solution for a problem of their choice. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Artificial Reef Program is housed within the Coastal Fisheries Division. Our program is split into three primary groups: Nearshore Reefing, Rigs-to-Reefs, and Ships-to-Reefs. We use materials of opportunity as well as donations of oil & gas platforms and vessels. We are also responsible for the long term monitoring of the fish communities and general health of our 66 reef sites along the Texas coast.

Operation Game Thief is Texas' wildlife Crime-stoppers program, offering rewards of up to $1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction for a wildlife crime. Begun in 1981 as a result of laws passed by the 67th Legislature to help curtail poaching, the program, a function of the law enforcement division of Texas Parks and Wildlife, is highly successful, having been responsible for the payment of over $195,000.00 in rewards. Privately funded, the program is dependent on financial support from the public through the purchase of OGT memberships and merchandise, donations, sponsorships, and gifts.

The Birding Classic is held each year from April 15 - May 15 to coincide with the spectacular spring bird migration in Texas. During the tournament, teams vie to see who can spot and record the most bird species in a given time period. The adult teams with the highest species counts win the privilege of choosing the conservation projects that will be awarded Conservation Grants. The event sponsors for 2016 include Toyota, Swarovski Optik, N.A., Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau, and Texas Ornithological Society, as well as awards ceremony sponsor, Audubon Texas.

The focus of the Nongame and Rare Species Program is Texas' rich diversity of nongame animals, plants, and natural communities. Our biologists collect, evaluate, and synthesize significant amounts of data to better inform conservation decisions and formulate management practices.
