We are very committed to the artisan food community and to fostering the values of that community here at the Ferry Building. We envision the Ferry Building Marketplace as a vibrant gathering of local farmers, artisan producers, and independently owned and operated food businesses and the customers they serve. We are creating a community of like-minded people that will: - Showcase small regional producers that practice traditional farming or production techniques and who develop personal relationships with their customers. - Promote the Bay Area's vast ethnic diversity and serve and an incubator for artisan producers who are returning to sustainable methods of agriculture and production. - Provide a central location for the promotion of the world-class food and wine producing regions of Northern California and recognize wine's connection to our rich regional cuisine. - Collaborate with local transit authorities to build strong regional ties to the Ferry Building and support the revitalization of the San Francisco waterfront. - Operate as a community gathering-place for the celebration of local culture and cuisine. Roli Roti Gourmet Rotisserie

Herb infused, free range rotisserie chicken, organic rosemary fingerling potatoes, tender Sonoma Valley lamb and juicy, crispy porchetta are just a few of the tantalizing delights that have earned Roli Roti the nickname, ‘Grandfather of Gourmet Street Food’. As a son of a Swiss ‘Metzgermeister’, or master butcher, Thomas Odermatt literally grew up in his family’s butcher shop in the Swiss Alps. This humble little shop, pictured on the left, is where Thomas learned his family's secrets of succulent, tender rotisserie. From his father, Otto, he learned the importance of using the right cuts for the right purpose, and of choosing only select, free range meats raised by trusted family farms. From his mother, Maria, he learned the family’s recipes for savory rotisserie, a specialty their shop prepared for customers on Saturdays. Though all the other butcher shops in the village offered rotisserie, only at Metzgerei Odermatt was there a line out the door and around the corner. “I am first a farmer, second a chef.” Thomas earned his masters degree in organic farming from ETH, Zürich then traveled to the US to continue his education at UC Berkeley. He was captivated, instead, by the local, gourmet food scene developing in Berkeley. The wood fired ovens of Chez Panisse and the lively Farmers’ Markets resonated with him. Yet he soon realized that freshly cooked, healthy street food was nonexistent in the US. “No one in America was serving simple, wholesome food on the go.” Meanwhile the rotisserie dinners Thomas prepared for friends were so wildly popular that he was inspired to fill this particular niche, by taking his family recipes on the road – indeed, to the streets. And the idea for Roli Roti, Gourmet Mobile Rotisserie was born. Today, Thomas and his family are passionate about sharing their slow food values, family recipes, and delicious rotisserie at farmers’ markets across the Bay Area. Roli Roti, America’s first and finest healthy, sustainable, slow cooked ‘street food’. Want more about RoliRoti? Instagram: @RoliRoti Twitter: @RoliRotiGourmet

We LOVE noodle soups and feel it is one of the most time consuming and complex food to get right. Making great noodle soups and all the work that goes into it is my passion. I love standing in front of the stove for hours (thank you wellness mat!) and watching the pot of ingredients marry together. You can take short cuts like using a pressure cooker but you don't get to see, hear, and smell what the soup is trying to tell you. Love the broth and it will love you back.

Copia
Distance: 0.7 mi Competitive Analysis
237 Kearny Street #9036
San Francisco, CA 94108

Our Mission: Copia's platform redistributes high-quality excess food from businesses and events that would otherwise throw it away and delivers it to feed communities in need when they need it the most. How We Do It: Those with excess food can request pickups of their excess food by answering three simple questions -- What kind of food is being donated? How much of it do you have? When does it need to be picked up by? The platform automatically detects the location of the user. The donation amount and type is then matched and connected in real-time to nearby charities, food banks, or other human service agencies in need of the donation. Food Heroes (on-demand drivers) pick-up and deliver the food within an hour. Recipient agencies then send thank-you messages to donors with an attached photo of the food recipients. This feature allows donors to see the impact of spending less than 2 minutes of their time through COPIA. Why We Do This: Food is a fundamental human right, and it is unfortunate that in such a wealthy and powerful nation, so many people end up begging and dying for it—while in our homes, restaurants, businesses and at catered events, so much of it is wasted. The traditional method of coordinating food donations over the phone is fraught with inefficiencies. People end up with large amounts of excess food unexpectedly. Moreover, it is difficult to locate and contact the people and agencies in need of it most during these times. We have created COPIA to make food more accessible to people in our community. By reducing food waste, we save money and resources, minimize environmental impacts, and most importantly, move towards a world where everyone has enough to eat. Our Vision: COPIA envisions a world zero food waste and zero hunger.
