The independently run Pitchfork Music Festival has consistently proven to be one of the most welcoming, comfortable, reasonably priced and rewarding weekends of music around. In addition to its musical offerings, the event features a wide array of other activities for its 50,000 attendees of all ages from 45 states and 26 countries. With 50 individual vendors, as well as specialty fairs, the fest not only supports local businesses and economy, but also promotes the Chicago arts community as a whole.
Kicking off the street fest season is the annual Do-Division Street Fest & Sidewalk Sale. August 18, 19, 20, & 21, 2016 Taylor Street at Ashland Ave Thursday and Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 12pm-11pm, Sunday 12pm-10pm Chicago’s popular Little Italy neighborhood will celebrate its history and heritage from August 13-16 as the annual Taylor Street Festa Italiana returns for its 9th year. More than 50,000 fest goers are expected to attend, saying “Ciao” to new neighbors, and “That’s Amore” about the authetic Italian activities, delectable (or “buono” Italian cuisine, and energetic live entertainment in three dynamic stages. The four-day celebration will put Chicagoans’ appetites to the test, as a meatball eating contest will challenge some of the city’s best amateur competitive eaters. Meanwhile, visitors will get the chance to experience firsthand what it’s like to make wine overseas, as attendees will be encouraged to kick off their shoes and participate in a special grape stomping area that will be set up throughout the festival. Families are invited to come out and enjoy the Festa Italiana with their little ones, as carnival rides and family- friendly activities will be taking place all weekend long, all nestled alongside three great stages of live entertainment and some of the best Italian food that Chicago has to offer. The Taylor Street Festa Italiana is produced and managed by StarEvents. Entry to the event is a suggested $5 donation with proceeds benefiting the University Village Association, a community development organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the Near West Side Community.
CHICAGO FASHION FEST Two days of non-stop fashionista action celebrating the latest looks from Chicago’s top designers and boutiques on a bleachered-in runway stage. Bands and DJs will set the tone as models tout “What’s in” in over 20 fashion runway show segments. "Shopper’s Row" is home to 50 exclusive booths of local fashion designers, boutiques, and salons, as well as food and drink tents and a dedicated kids area. Each night there's a Wicker Park after Dark charity-hosted red carpet extravaganza.
