Grand Central's origins go back to September 12th, 1991, when owner Don Davis purchased a historic Baltimore home and opened Central Station Pub. On February 5, 2003, the adjacent property (home to the former "Stagecoach") was purchased, and a major renovation was undertaken, adding an expansive double bar "disco" with state-of-the-art dance floor, sound and lighting systems, and an additional upstairs lounge. In keeping with the major improvements and new facilities, the club was renamed Grand Central. Nestled in the heart of historic Mount Vernon (within walking distance of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Penn Station, the Walters Art Museum and other Baltimore cultural institutions), Grand Central quickly established itself as the cornerstone of trendy, upscale nightlife in Baltimore city. With neighboring four-star eateries, outdoor cafes, quaint B&Bs, and charming hotels, Mount Vernon is the best Baltimore has to offer.

One of building’s main attractions is the speakeasy bar that has been around since The Belvedere first opened its doors. The bar remained nameless for many years but it instantly became the ultimate gentlemen’s drinking establishment, even during the prohibition years. It was in those dry years that the owners brought in its now famous owl statues, and so the name The Owl Bar was born. The true meaning behind the statues was never revealed but one thing was certain: if the owls had their eyes lit, alcohol was being served and customers were hustling in. Over 100 years later the Owl Bar is still Baltimore’s destination for delicious food and drink served with a rich past and historic atmosphere. The Owl Bar features 20 draught craft beer selections, cocktail and wine list, brick oven pizzas and paninis, and full brunch, lunch, and dinner menus.

Dougherty’s Pub has been in Mt. Vernon, in one form or another since 1983. Initially there was the Irish Pub, located fifty yards down the block, owned by Bill Dougherty. In 1992 construction began on what is now known as Dougherty’s Pub. We’re proud to say we sponsor our local artistic community by offering free wall space for local artists to have their work seen. First Thursday of every month, the next artist to present their work has an opening and leaves their work up for sale to the public. We feel this is our small way of giving back to the artistic community that we live in. Our fare is typical pub grub, with nightly specials. Our clientele is very representative of the Mt. Vernon community, everything from U of B law students, Maryland Institute of Arts students, state employees and neighborhood folk. We hope you’ll stop by and check us out.

Load of Fun Arts was 20 Artists Studios, 34 artists, 4 Theater groups, and 2 Theaters in the Station North Arts District of Baltimore, MD. Load of Fun was shut down overnight by the City of Baltimore in 2013 on the pretext of a Zoning violation
From 2005 until 2012 the building at 120 W. North Avenue, known as the "Load of Fun" had been owned and operated by an artist-entrepreneur who leased performance and studio spaces to individual artists and small arts organizations. In the summer of 2012 the owner was forced to evict the tenants and close the building when he was financially unable to bring the building up to code after an inspection by the city's fire marshals. BARCO purchased the property in August, 2013 to restore the building as a cultural hub for the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. Working with an advisory committee of artists, curators, performers, arts educators, and art organization executives, BARCO is developing the property into a facility that will showcase Baltimore’s vibrant and diverse urban arts scene; provide quality facilities for artists, performers, curators, and nonprofit arts organizations; and attract audiences and art patrons from across the city and around the region. The first floor will be the principal public venue, with a cafe, a black-box performance space, and a public gallery area in the main entrance. The second floor will be devoted to artist studios, and the third floor will provide office and collaborative space for arts-related non-profit organizations. We are actively searching for a restaurant to fill the first floor space. For leasing inquiries, please contact Jamie Lanham of the Segall Group: 410-753-3000 / [email protected] For performance space inquiries, email: [email protected]
