The Travis County Juvenile Public Defender represents the children of Travis County who are facing criminal accusations or other statutorily defined proceedings in juvenile court. It is our aim to protect the constitutional rights of the children of Travis County by vigorously representing our clients and working towards ensuring that no child is ever wrongly or illegally incarcerated or held responsible for conduct he or she did not commit. The Juvenile Public Defender is committed to meeting these goals while maintaining the highest level of ethical and professional standards. The Juvenile Public Defender has grown considerably since it was established in 1971 as the first public defender solely representing juveniles in the country. Our current staff includes attorneys with an average of over ten years experience practicing juvenile law, support staff and a full time investigator.
