We are Omaha Steaks, a fifth-generation, family-owned company with a passion for providing the finest in premium beef and gourmet foods for our family of customers. Our company originated in 1917, when father and son, J.J. and B.A. Simon, immigrants from Riga, Latvia, founded The Table Supply Meat Company, a small custom butcher shop in Omaha, Nebraska. The original company sold tender, premium beef to discerning restaurants, hotels and grocers. B.A.’s son, Lester Simon, joined the company in 1929 and is credited with introducing the great taste of Omaha Steaks to the nation, when he persuaded Union Pacific Railroad to begin serving them in the dining cars of their luxury transcontinental trains in the 1940’s. Train passengers who enjoyed Omaha Steaks in Union Pacific’s dining cars asked the question, “how do we get these steaks at home?” prompting our company to launch its first mail order ventures – magazine ads and direct mail flyers -- in 1952. Innovations in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s including direct parcel shipping, polystyrene shipping coolers and vacuum packaging helped catapult the business to the next level. The first Omaha Steaks catalogs rolled off the press in 1963, accompanied by an expanded product line that included seafood, pork, poultry, side dishes, appetizers and desserts. In 1966, our company built a new plant facility and changed the company name to Omaha Steaks. During the 1970’s, we opened a call center for easy telephone ordering and later made mail order history by introducing a toll-free service line to better assist customers. Retail stores were added to the marketing mix in 1976. Today, the company has more than 80 store locations in 28 states. Among the first companies nationwide to arrive online, Omaha Steaks started offering steaks for sale on CompuServe beginning in 1990 and we started our own website www.OmahaSteaks.com in 1995. Fifth-generation family members Bruce and Todd Simon now provide the leadership of Omaha Steaks, where our philosophy that “the customer is at the top of the organizational chart” never changes. We are extremely proud of our proven brand and reputation for quality and service. We’ve experienced tremendous growth since we opened almost 100 years ago, but our commitment to serving customers remains at the heart of everything we do.
