The Peale Museum, also known officially as the Municipal Museum of the City of Baltimore, was a museum of paintings and natural history, located in the City of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It occupied the first building in the Western Hemisphere to be designed and built specifically as a museum. The Peale Museum was created by Charles Willson Peale, (1741-1827) and his son Rembrandt Peale, 1778-1860). After functioning separately as the Baltimore City's historical museum since the original structure was being rebuilt, restored, and renovated in 1930-1931, and then later merging in with other historic sites, houses and museums in the early 1980s under the expansive efforts of new executive director, with the name of the Baltimore City Life Museums and a new broader mission in conjunction with the other historical locations. After opening a new three-story exhibition gallery, uniquely using the old cast-iron façade of the razed (but placed in storage in a city yard for 30 years) of the old Fava Fruit Company and being re-assembled on the new structure facing North Front Street and the parallel new President Street Boulevard (between East Lombard and East Fayette Streets), the new gallery and the B.C.L.M. ran into financial difficulties in the first year in 1996-1997 after the grand opening, coincidentally during the Baltimore Bicentennial Celebration (of the City's 200th year after incorporation as a city), The Peale branch of the City Life Museums closed unfortunately with the other branches - historic houses and sites later in 1997 and its large collections from over 66 years of original existence were transferred and handed over to the Maryland Historical Society, founded 1844 on West Monument Street and Park Avenue. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
The goal of this project is to teach youth they can be agents of social change through research and activism. Throughout the school year, student leaders (two from each public high school in the city) will design and implement a series of focus groups with their peers to build a critical ethnography of the space. After data is collected and analyzed, students will hold a press conference to formally release their suggestions for improving the Harbor. Finally, they will create and execute a plan for implementation.
Charm City Companions is a community outreach initiative, modeled as close as possible to The HSUS Pets for Life community outreach program, which is designed to extend animal welfare resources and information to pet owners who have never received services or have received services without long-lasting impact. CCC is centered in communities that have the least access to services and information -- the truly under-served. As outlined in the Pets for Life Toolkit (Second edition), CCC encourages approaching people with respect and accepting that most people love their pets, regardless of socioeconomic status or variations in culture. Through this non-judgmental method, we help elevate the human-animal bond and foster healthy relationships between people and their pets. By improving the relationship between a person and his or her pet, we help to improve the quality of life for both by increasing the chances of the pet staying in the home permanently. This approach is effective because it embraces the human component of the companion animal equation, meeting people where they are and establishing trust, creating a ripple effect in the community for long-term impact.

Inspiring People and Community was founded by Sharlena Barrow-Manley and Andrea Finch who both are mothers of two handsome and exceptional boys. Sharlena and Andrea both have a son with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) which is how they met. The ladies met at an early intervention co-op in Owings Mills, MD where their sons were receiving services. They quickly became best friends that actively support each other on their journey with their sons with autism. The unwavering challenges the two moms face with trying to receive the best services to include recreational activities for each of their boys has been unquestionably challenging. Like many parents with a child with special needs, significant sacrifices are present. The moms found it to be a financial strain in accessing high quality services and supports. Since their sons who have autism have limited awareness of safety and are attracted to water, Sharlena and Andrea found themselves even struggling to afford private swimming lessons. Due to safety and sensory concerns many children on the spectrum require 1:1 lessons. More and more Andrea and Sharlena encountered families who also could not afford the high cost of services such as applied behavior analysis, private swimming lessons, therapeutic horseback riding and so much more. When Andrea and Sharlena came across parents of children with autism in the inner city of Baltimore, MD they soon realized the substantial disparity amongst low-income as well as the working middle class. The two moms soon found themselves volunteering their time to help low-income individuals and families with autism spectrum disorders to the point that they decided to follow their hearts of starting a non-profit. Too often on their journey Sharlena and Andrea heard the words “what if” stated for persons with special needs. For example, “what if” he had access to adequate early intervention services would his life be different? Or “what if” she was able to afford therapeutic activities for her daughter would she have less problem behavior? Following their hearts have now led Sharlena and Andrea to living their dream of helping individuals with special needs.

We are a faith based, privately funded, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We provide programs and services to men suffering from homelessness and addiction. Our long-term, residential Spiritual Recovery Program is our flagship. Since 1995, we have helped hundreds of men break the cycle of addiction, poverty, and homelessness. The average homeless man we serve has survived two decades of substance abuse and years on the streets. He comes to us addicted, destitute, and dysfunctional — with no realistic capacity to recover on his own. For a man in that condition, a “quick fix” doesn’t exist. Healing requires a holistic approach. By God’s grace, lives are transformed as men who have suffered for years — or in many cases, decades — on the streets rise up and regain their purpose, hope, and independence. As they do, all Baltimore is blessed along with them; our community experiences healing.
