If you are reading this, you are either one of our 160-plus members or a stakeholder with interest in the continued success of the Midtown Omaha area. Whichever group you belong to, welcome! Our website’s masthead states that we at MBA are ‘Advocates for a Healthy Midtown Business Community’. What does that mean? ADVOCATES: We give our membership a voice in maintaining and improving our area. Over our 30 year history we’ve cultivated a good working relationship with our government officials. It could be something simple such as graffiti abatement. It could be major, like working with the city and state to help close down a problem business, such as the Travel Inn or Cheater’s Bar. HEALTHY: Midtown is one of the most established parts of Omaha and around 30,000 people call it home. It only makes sense that hundreds of businesses from sole proprietor to Fortune 500 choose to locate here as well. One doesn’t need to look far to see investment of all sizes and for all purposes. Midtown Crossing, UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, Creighton, and dozens of small business/non-profit investments come to mind. MIDTOWN BUSINESS: We encourage our members and stakeholders to give preference with their commerce to MBA members. In many cases, those business owners live here and the dollars spent have a higher likelihood of staying here. We have just approved production of ‘MBA Member’ window clings for our members to display at their businesses. Click on our MBA Directory tab to see a list of our members. COMMUNITY: Like many of our members, I live and work here. A half-mile separates me from home and my Edward Jones office on Leavenworth Street. As such I am a member of my neighborhood association and MBA. Both are important to my family’s quality of life. I am pleased that we have recently added to our board an officer of the Midtown Neighborhood Alliance. We as a board believe that healthy neighborhoods enable healthy businesses, and vice versa. For years, MBA has also supported the Integrated Learning Program, an OPS school formerly known as Yates (click the ILP tab on our site to learn more). So that’s who we are. I hope that you take some time to further acquaint yourself with the MBA. We host nine public lunches a year and quarterly networking events. Bookmark this website www.MidtownBusinessAssociation.org to see our upcoming events. While you’re there, click the Join tab and become a member. I look forward to seeing you soon!
