Permanent Affordable Live-Work housing for Artists Fundamental to the arts in Boston is a place for artists to live and work. That place is Midway Artist Studios, 89 live-work studios located in Fort Point in Boston, just a short walk from South Station. As Boston’s largest affordable live-work building, Midway Artist Studios was established in 2005 as a place for artists to live and work affordably in Boston, when the real estate boom swept through Fort Point and displaced hundreds of working artists. Midway Artist Studios is unique and pivotal as the only remaining artist rental building in Fort Point. The rental model allows emerging artists a place to stay and work in Boston, and artists from around the world to come and work in Boston. It encourages the free flow of ideas between disciplines and generations. In 2014, the artists organized themselves to purchase the building, making it a permanent rental artist controlled building, run by a board of directors, elected in part by the artist residents themselves. A catalyst to root our poverty in our neighborhoods. Today the organization touches the lives of over 35,000 Boston area residents each year. We combat homelessness and poverty through a multi-level approach to service delivery. We provide direct services that are designed to empower participants, service –learning and urban immersion experiences that are designed to teach and inspire, and public education campaigns which use storytelling as a healing tool for social change. City Mission is unique. It works for program participants by working with them to empower. It not only provides direct services but it also advocates for systemic change in public policy. City Mission works in both the city and the suburbs, building bridges across perceived boundaries. It is part of the service community and the religious community as well. It raises awareness on issues of social justice and it provides volunteer and service opportunities for people to contribute to social change. And it has done all these things for almost 200 years through faith, compassion and love.

Beacon Hill special interests have monopoly control of the legislative process. We are on the brink of leaving the next generation of Massachusetts residents far less competitive. Now is the time to get involved and demand fiscal responsibility from our leaders. It’s time we had leaders that are 100% dedicated to solving the fiscal issues affecting our state. Massachusetts is always better off when its citizens, small business owners and entrepreneurs get involved and take control of our state’s future. Our scorecard is a step in that direction. We hope to give Massachusetts residents the tools they need to make the best decisions. As residents of Massachusetts, we are concerned for our Fiscal future.
