Soroptimist is an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. We have almost 95,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories that contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects that benefit women and girls. The name, Soroptimist, means best for women, and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best. The Hamilton chapter was established in 1974 and currently has over 50 members from the Bitterroot Valley. If you too would like to be the Best for Women, come join us! We meet 1st and 2nd Thursdays each month at noon in BJ's back dining room (corner of Hwy 93 and Fairgrounds Road).
When the District Court assumes jurisdiction over a child, a volunteer guardian ad litem is appointed by a district court judge to serve the child’s best interests in the court proceedings. The CASA volunteer’s role is to ensure that the child receives proper care while in the system, and see that the child is placed in a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. A guardian ad litem conducts investigations regarding all the facts, monitors the child’s situation, and makes recommendations to the court. As a CASA volunteer you get to know the child, and meet the parents, foster parents therapists, teachers, concerned friends and case workers. Once you have the full picture, you make recommendations as to what is in the child’s best interests.
