The theatre arts center is considered one of the finest drama spaces available at any private university in the Midwest and the premier theatre in the Concordia University System. The center includes the state of the art E.M. Pearson Theatre, a 400-seat proscenium theatre with a full fly loft and hydraulic orchestra pit lift, a 100-seat black box theatre laboratory, costume and scenery shops and a dance studio. Numerous theatre and dance companies launch their national tours from the center, including The Guthrie Theater, Children's Theatre Company and Theatre de la Jeune Lune.
ThreeSixty Journalism, originally established in 1971 as the Urban Journalism Workshop, is a nonprofit program of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas that uses the principles of strong writing and reporting to help diverse Minnesota high school students tell their personal stories. ThreeSixty Journalism offers both residential and non-residential summer camps as well as school year programming at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul campus. Media professionals and other mentors provide instruction to enhance reading, writing and speech skills, as well as develop journalism skills and college readiness. Through the programs, students gain a journalistic voice, feel more connected to their communities and become more driven, knowledgeable, confident, tenacious, brave, enthusiastic and passionate in life. A unique feature of Macalester College, the Institute for Global Citizenship (IGC) houses diverse programs that connect rigorous academics with hands-on experience and exploration outside the classroom. The Concordia University Bookstore is a place to get all sorts of Concordia must haves! We have everything you could need for a day of classes, we are not just textbooks, although they are a must have! We also carry many snack and quick lunch items, soda, and candy. We have all of the Concordia apparel that you could need, from sweatshirts, pants, and t-shirts to flip flops and hats. We even have apparel for your mom and dad! Need a gift or souvenir for the family? We have all sorts of gift items from coffee mugs and water bottles to writing utensils and notebooks. The school supplies we have on hand are endless, whatever you need for classes, projects or final presentations, we have them just down the hall from your classroom.
Macalester football began in 1887 and has since continued to strive for excellence and passion both on the field and in the classroom. Under current head coach Tony Jennison, who took over in 2008, the Scots improved to a 6-3 record in 2010. The mark was the school's best since 1986 and the Scots set a school-record for most points and yards in a season. In 2011 the Fighting Scots recorded their first win over a MIAC opponent in nearly a decade with a 17-0 win over Snelling avenue rival Hamline to claim the "Old Paint Bucket" trophy. The 2012 roster will boast 20 seniors and potentially be the largest roster is school history. Macalester College plays an NCAA Division III football schedule in the Midwest Conference. The Scots, who previously played in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), boast conference championships in 1925 and 1947.

The mission of the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life is to recognize and affirm the diversity of religious and cultural experience at Macalester College. This includes nurturing students' exploration of their religious tradition, helping express values by engaging in local and global issues with the aim of repairing the world and by participating in the educational life of the college by promoting critical study, spiritual conversation and faith exploration. Campus Center is the gathering place for the campus community on a daily basis for food, conversation, activities, events, and services. The Bonner Community Scholars Program at Macalester is a four-year civic engagement program providing academic support, leadership programming, engagement opportunities and a social network to students dedicated to pursuing and integrating community engagement into their college experience. It is an opportunity for students to use their energy, talents, and leadership skills to engage in community service with developmental, financial, and academic support. Create partnerships with academic and administrative departments to infuse anti-oppression education through all aspects of campus life. 3. Foster and promote a welcoming and pluralistic environment that is inclusive of the entire college community. 4. Integrate and affirm the peoples, discourses, thoughts, and experiences of marginalized people into the fabric of the Macalester community.
The Macalester Men's Swimming and Diving team started in 1924 and the Women's Swimming and Diving team started in 1974. We have a new athletic facility that was completed in 2008. The Riley Pool is a ten, 25 yard lane pool or a eight 25 meter lane pool. The pool is also set up with a one meter board and one three meter board for diving. We participate at the Division 3 level, and compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

2012 - 2013 Season Theme: Youth Cultures Dependent/consumer? Rebel/activist? Worker/artist? The arts are the political and cultural battlegrounds for global youth and youth movements, from the utopic to “teenage wastelands.” Independence, rights, pleasures, powers, debt, and work: How do global/local youth cultures contend and protest in everyday life? The season will feature four Main Stage theatre productions and two dance concerts. Fall 2012 Productions SING PROTEST, SING PEACE OCTOBER 12 AND 13 AT 7:00 P.M. OCTOBER 14 AT 2:00 P.M. Directed by award-winning Minneapolis Fringe Festival Director Isabel Nelson ’04, this piece will kick off a season of new and devised work. A cast of first-year students brings to life a story steeped in not-so-recent history, when the youth lived out the rumblings of a great social unrest. Developed by the ensemble using physical theater techniques and the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, this 30-minute piece investigates questions of love, duty, and honor in a time of war. SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET NOVEMBER 9, 10, 15-17 AT 7:30 P.M. NOVEMBER 11 AT 2:00 P.M. Directed by guest artist Matt Sciple, professional actor and director with Ten Thousand Things Theatre Company, Park Square, and many other companies. This is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s tragedy of star-crossed young lovers defying the authorities of their time. FALL DANCE CONCERT DECEMBER 7-8 AT 7:30 P.M DECEMBER 8 AT 2:00 P.M. The Macalester dance faculty will present an evening of original choreography including the powerful, West African-inspired dances of Patricia Brown and the edgy, never predictable work of Krista Langberg. Becky Heist will present a women’s quintet inspired by Gertrude Degenhardt's drawings: "Vagabondage - Women in Music”, and Luke Olsen-Elm, this year’s Visiting Choreographer, will share his introspective sensibility in an ensemble work. This year’s student-choreographers will join Luke and the faculty to complete the evening of dances exploring the season’s theme “Youth Cultures”. Spring 2013 Productions HIP HOP HOPES FEBRUARY 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 AT 7:30 P.M. FEBRUARY 17 AT 2:00 P.M. Conceived and presented by Macalester students in collaboration with and direction by Harry Waters Jr. What in the world are the new voices of youth? What stories are being heard, told or ignored? Who is going to answer the questions? In this created performance, come and explore the difficult journey of several students who find that the answers they seek bring up more questions and challenges than they expected. Watch the struggle through the lens of Hip Hop writing, dance, music and art. And maybe you will get to help them find the next stages. RATIONS: A PERFORMANCE OF HUNGER AND THE BODY APRIL 12, 13, 19, 20, 21 AT 7:30 P.M. APRIL 14 AT 2:00 P.M. This show will be the culmination of a year-long inquiry into hunger, rationing, surplus and "development," at levels global, cultural and individual. Who gets to eat? What is nourishment? How can one's body be enough, have enough, demand enough? RATIONS will use the ir-rational means of performance to move awareness about food and apportionment, on all community plates. Directed by Beth Cleary. SPRING DANCE CONCERT MAY 3 AND 4 AT 7:30 MAY 4 AT 2:00 This concert is imagined, created, and organized by student-choreographers. Fueled by reflection and risk-taking, the evening presents a range of passionate voices. Students experience, in their unique dance-making processes, how life experience, trial and error, and craft come together. The concert will highlight an original piece by the world-renown Pilobolus Dance Company who, through the support of the Ordway Theatre, will be in residency this spring.
