In 2005, Jimmy Robles attended a Westside A.C.T.S. Men's Retreat through San Juan De Los Lagos Church, at this 4 day retreat he encountered God in skit that changed his life forever. By the end of the retreat, he turned his life over to God and was convicted of his old sinful life of selling drugs and became a new person with a vision and a strong desire to serve God. Not even a month into his salvation his desire gave way to act on a vision that God had placed in his heart, he would minister through a drama based loosely on his life story. A 26 page script was written in a week for this drama and 3 months later he had a cast of 44 teenagers and adults ready to go on the road. The drama was called "A Second Chance" and was first performed in April of 2006 at the YWCA gym on Castroville Rd. in San Antonio, TX with over 600 in attendance. With the success of his first drama, they repeated this drama each month all over Texas for the next 3 years. In May 2006, passing through a vacant dirt lot on the corner of Zarazamora St. & Poplar he was moved to set up an outreach ministry on the empty lot across the street from a vacant bail bonds building. With a table and a couple of chairs and a sign that said, "Do You Need a Hug or Prayer", he started to reach out to the community surrounded by prostitutes, gangs, addicts and the homeless, he served them coffee with something to eat. Every Saturday he continued to setup the outreach ministry in the vacant lot and minister to all who would come by. Seeing the need first hand in the community he decided to have a Thanksgiving event, where he provided a turkey dinner with all the trimmings to the less fortune it. After his first Thanksgiving event, the outreach ministry continued to grow more then100 people would faithfully show up each Saturday. The outreach ministry continued in this vacant lot for 3 years, seeing a vision and a calling to continue to minister to the needs of the Westside community God direct Jimmy's vison to the empty bail bonds building across the street, this building would eventually be transformed & become Last Chance Ministries Church. The abandoned bails bond building had bullet proof windows, no floors, and was in dilapidated state of condition. With much hard work and sacrifice the 100 year old building was renovated and in November 2009 was opened to serve the Westside community. After much prayer & keeping the faith and paying rent for over two years God blessed his perseverance on September 2011 when God touched the heart of a believer & supporter of the ministry to bless Pastor Jimmy & Last Chance Ministry with a $100,000 donation which Pastor Robles used to payoff the building.

Redeemer Church entered into this culturally rich and dynamic city in the summer of 2002 eager to share the ancient, yet timeless message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Redeemer is learning that the Gospel is not simply about sharing a message, doing better or being nicer, but about God’s renovation of the whole of our lives—giving us a new focus for worship, new fuel for life and new purpose for the future. Our desire then, as is now, is to lovingly embrace and support the people and culture of San Antonio, not alienate or condemn. We see the needs and problems of our city as opportunities for service and sacrifice, not problems to overlook or abandon. Toward that end, Redeemer seeks to engage San Antonio's business, university, professional, medical and art communities in the hopes of seeing resources and people redirected by the love of Christ in order to bless the wider city. Redeemer welcomes everyone—the seeker, skeptic and spiritually hungry. We desire to be a place of healing for those burn-out and wounded by the world and the church. We work hard to build bridges among the various ethnicities present in our city so that the Gospel's transforming message may touch more lives.
We function as a fundraising, volunteer service group, and have many projects and programs that can satisfy an eagerness to volunteer here in San Antonio.
