Cooper Technica, Inc.

401 N May St
Chicago, IL 60642

(312) 733-4700

Cooper Technica, Inc. specializes in complete restorations of rare and valuable vintage automobiles, especially pre-war and early post-war European sports and touring cars. Cooper Technica maximizes each car's potential value with the highest standards of authentic restoration, meticulous research and historical documentation, and an emphasis on functionality. Our goal is fidelity to the original rather than over-restoration to an imaginary ideal. We believe restoration is best when the hand of the restorer does not show. Therefore, original specifications, materials, and techniques are used wherever possible. Our emphasis on functionality assures our clients that the restored car can actually be driven—not just idled up to the podium to receive an award. Sometimes this involves subtle modifications for today's gasoline and driving conditions, which may include hardened valve seats (for unleaded fuel), modern paint technology, modern rubber compounds (tires and seals), and upgraded wiring and electrical. Decisions about these modifications are made in consultation with our clients and are discreetly crafted with an eye to maintaining the car's value. David Cooper directs each step of the restoration and does much of the mechanical and assembly work himself. Typically, the disassembly, evaluation, research, complete mechanical and electrical restoration, and reassembly take place at Cooper Technica's Chicago facility. Here we make every effort to restore vintage parts. If replacement parts are necessary and originals are unavailable, we fabricate quality restoration parts in our own in-house machine shop. Other work, such as sheet metal body panel restoration (both steel and aluminum), preparation and paint, or interior and convertible top restoration is subcontracted to elite specialist artisans in both the United States and Europe. David Cooper honed his restoration skills during an eleven-year apprenticeship with master craftsman, engineer and inventor, Leonard Morrison (1935-2002). Cooper is a trained machinist and fabricator, overseeing all aspects of restoration and assembly from his Chicago workshop.

Strangelovely is a refined, classic and urban vintage furniture and home decor showroom in Chicago’s near west side neighborhood at 2621 West Grand Avenue. Kim Tanner, the owner, carefully curates an ever evolving collection of vintage home goods that reflect the quality and craftsmanship of a by-gone era while keeping the overall aesthetic of her showroom eclectic and fresh. Taking from the examples of her Grandmothers, Kim has an eye for quality and refined pieces and can spot a a hidden gem! Her BFA in Interior Design also helped mold her appreciation for well executed and thoughtful design. Kim travels all over the Midwest from Green Bay to Nashville and all parts in between to visit estate sales and private sellers in order to bring her finds back to the shop in Chicago where she styles and mixes them, hopefully helping her clients let their own style shine through! While trends are fun and always a part of the collection Kim focuses on bringing home quality pieces that never go out of style. Currently, the Strangelovely Showroom is available by appointment only. However, coming September 1st, 2015 you can find Strangelovely in a brand new storefront in the WoW district of Chicago at North Avenue and Campbell

The two sisters began their take from Alcala's Western Wear, where they inherited the retail ins and outs from their Family Business. As they grew older, they then decided to branch out with Alcala's Collection. Our history and heritage go into every stitch of our boots, shoes, and bags. "At our boutique we strive to make women feel comfortable and beautiful. People shop with us because it is an experience. We love to talk and cater to our customers.
