I've been making art for as long as I can remember. I was born in Denmark, and my family moved to Vermont when I was seven years old. I love color and nature, and draw inspiration from both. I am largely self-taught, and enjoy exploring books about artists and art history. Making art gives my life meaning that I cannot seem to find in any other way. Six years ago I started my business, Make Life Cozy, as a meaningful way to support my family through my art and teaching. I am fortunate to have a studio/shop in Burlington, Vermont. Until last year I considered myself a fiber artist, working primarily with cloth and wool and paper and beads- making landscape quilts and needle- and wet-felted scenes and figures. I started painting seriously in April 2015 and absolutely love it. Because I am sensitive to the chemicals and smells associated with oil paints, I paint with acrylics and watercolors. I love to paint landscapes, especially "en plein air". I really enjoy taking my own photographs to use as reference for my studio work. Vermont is such a beautiful place, and I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by the scenery every day. Going to different places to paint is always exciting, too. It's also a great way to meet people! I love to capture the fleeting light of sunrise or sunset. I have succeeded if my art makes you see nature, and especially Vermont, the way I do. Thanks for looking, and please visit me at my studio in Burlington. I teach all kinds of arts and crafts: Painting, felting, knitting, embroidery, card making and seed bead techniques. I sell KITS and supplies for needle felting. I sell Peace Fleece yarns. I sell Kauni Effektgarn and goods knit from this yarn. I will come to your place for home crafting parties! I make and sell unique gifts.

Modern Vermont
Distance: 0.4 mi Competitive Analysis
195 Flynn Ave
Burlington, VT 05401

design There are three primary factors that determine what designs become Modern Vermont or don’t. And there are many that don’t. #1 of course is Looks. It’s got to look sharp. It’s got to be Modern. #2, It’s got to be built efficiently. We are trying to minimize waste and cost here for the benefit of the environment and your wallet. #3, If we couldn't afford to buy it ourselves, what is the point? We want other people to enjoy quality modern furniture too! affordable quality No, this furniture isn’t cheap. You can get modern furniture at IKEA for much less. MV furniture is handmade, built in Vermont, and built to last. The designs are one-of-a-kind and suitable for sophisticated modern interiors. Shop around, you won’t find such qualities at these prices! If you do, please tell us! We like to buy other folks’ stuff too!!! How is it done? First by doing more with less. The plywood we use isn’t cheap by plywood standards, but compared to similar furnishings built of solid hardwood, it is a clear winner on price. MV designs are conceived from square one to use materials and time efficiently to produce the best product with the least cost. Minimalism rules! waste not A major goal of every piece is to maximize the use of material. In the case of plywood, the standard size (96x48) is taken into account at the beginning of design. As a design progresses, the pieces are layed out onto a virtual piece of plywood. Every coffee table you see here uses Exactly 1/2 a sheet of plywood. plyChair #1 uses 1/3 sheet. And the dimensions are consistent throughout so the remaining 2/3 sheet will work for another project (like 2 more chairs!). In the rare case there are scraps, they DO NOT go to landfill. They are all saved for other projects, such as picture frames or kitchen untensil dividers. The only thing lost from the shop is sawdust. Unfortunately with the mix of wood and glue dust there isn't anything currently to be done with it. Being obsessive about reducing even this waste, every saw blade in the shop is a Thin Kerf design, meaning it is 30% thinner than standard saw blades. This turns 30% less wood into sawdust than a conventional blade. Another benefit is reduced power usage as the thinner blade requires less energy to cut thru wood. Thanks to the simplicity of our designs and the planning that goes into cutting, there are very few cuts to make. This further reduces waste! It is a never ending quest to be perfect. We aren't there yet but trying very very hard! honesty of materials Everything that goes into an MV furnishing has been exhaustively thought out to be the Right Tool For The Job and to be used in the best way it can. Honesty of Materials is critical to MV furniture. Plywood is Plywood, not Hardwood, so why should it ever masquerade anything but? Plastic that looks like wood? Plaster that looks like concrete? Not at MV! If it's plywood it stays plywood. Cardboard stays cardboard. We like these materials and hope you will too!

Often I am asked why I chose to become a travelpreneur. For me, it's about retirement. Being in the mental health profession for 35 years has been very rewarding in many ways, except financially. Looking ahead, the thought of living on a fixed, restrictive income was very unappealing to me. So I put out a request to the universe to bring me a new experience that would be both fun and in service to others in a new way. When a friend told me about this travel company, I did the research and felt a huge "hell, yes!" I think of both of their products, dreamtrips and building a business with this company, as being gifts...truly. The trips are incredible! All different kinds, all over the world, High-end experiences at very affordable prices, and a unique system in place to help people pay for it. It's 1 of a kind. A fellow travelpreneur referred to building a business with this company as an adult version of make a wish. I resonate with that in a big way. I now serve others by helping people define what they really really want for themselves, what's getting in their way of achieving it, and offering this opportunity as a vehicle to attain your version of success, fulfillment or abundance. I offer you these gifts.
