The current incarnation of Rowes Wharf is a modern development in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. It is best known for the Boston Harbor Hotel's multi-story arch over the wide public plaza between Atlantic Avenue and the Boston Harbor waterfront. Along the waterfront can be found a marina, restaurants, a water transportation terminal, and a floating stage offering free concerts and movies during the summer.MBTA boat services link the wharf to Hingham, while water taxis operate to and from Logan International Airport. Cruise boats also operate from the wharf.History18th centuryIn 1666 a protective battery called the "Sconce", or the "South Battery", was built at the foot of Fort Hill in the area now known as Rowes Wharf. In peacetime, the Battery had a company assigned to it in case of invasion, but had only one gunner. During the 1740s, the Battery was extended into the harbor and was defended by thirty-five guns. In 1764, John Rowe bought the land and built the first Rowes Wharf, which extended a short distance into Boston Harbor, and in 1765 Foster's Wharf was built on the site of the old Battery.Foster's Wharf was originally called "Apthorp's Wharf". Charles Apthorp, being a staunch Tory, backed the losing side in the American Revolution, and it was his confiscated land and wharf that merchant William Foster bought for 6,266 pounds, 12 shillings in May 1782. Rowes Wharf, however, has carried its original builder's name since its inception. For the next 150 years or so, commercial shipping continued to be a main user of the area.

The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway is a linear park located in several Downtown Boston neighborhoods. It consists of landscaped gardens, promenades, plazas, fountains, art, and specialty lighting systems that stretch over one mile through the Chinatown, Financial District, Waterfront, and North End neighborhoods. Officially opened in October 2008, the 15-acre Greenway sits on land created from demolition of the John F. Fitzgerald Expressway under the Big Dig.The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway is named after Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, the matriarch of the Kennedy Family who was born in the neighboring North End neighborhood. Her son, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, played an important role in establishing the Greenway.The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy was established as an independently incorporated non-profit organization in 2004 to guide the emerging park system and raise funds for an endowment and operations. In 2008, the State Legislature confirmed the Conservancy as the designated steward of the Rose Kennedy Greenway; the Conservancy operates with a lease from the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (now Massachusetts Department of Transportation). Since February 2009, the Conservancy has operated the park, leading the maturation of this new civic space, strengthening its physical beauty, and encouraging a sense of a shared community in Boston.

Post Office Square in Boston, Massachusetts is located in the financial district at the intersection of Milk, Congress, Pearl and Water Streets. It was named in 1874 after the United States Post Office and Sub-Treasury which fronted it, now replaced by the John W. Johnson.There was a transformer explosion and fire in the One Post Office Square building in December 1986. An electric company worker was killed but fortunately it was after normal business hours and the building was able to be evacuated with only a few injuries.

Two International Place is a postmodern skyscraper in the Financial District neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The site is located on a site formerly known as Fort Hill. It is located blocks from North End, the waterfront, South Station, Downtown Crossing, and the Federal Courthouse. The building was designed by John Burgee Architects with Philip Johnson and completed in 1992, is Boston's tenth-tallest building, standing 538 feet (164 m) tall.ExteriorIt consists of a 36-story tower and 13-story annex. It is one of the towers in a complex of five structures, anchored by two towers. The facades are constructed of unpolished rose-granite panels with punched aluminum framed and fixed in-place window openings. Windows are a take on tripartite windows but whose lunettes, or arched portions, are fake. A portion of both towers consists of an aluminum framed curtain wall system with a combination of reflective vision glass and spandrel glass. Elaborate classical lighting fixtures are located on exterior. The building's crown consists of an octagonal-based pyramid surrounded by a ring rising out of the tower and partially up the pyramid. This crown is illuminated at night.InteriorThe Court, located at the center of the complex, features a rain fountain and provides a 25,000 square feet retail and café area with restaurants, shops and business services. This court links all the building in the complex. Lobby areas feature distinctive imported marble and granite from Spain, Italy and Africa. The interior minimizes columns, greatly enhancing space efficiency and providing work locations with panoramic views. There is a secured underground parking with over 800 spaces. There are 38 high-speed passenger elevators and four freight elevators.

Often we are asked to provide escort off and back onto their ship through the security restricted terminals. Our Cruise Ministry involves gathering volunteers from member churches, groups and indivduals to assist us in our Seafarers Center.
