We define oppressive behavior as that which antagonizes people that are in a lesser position of power, whether it be violence predicated upon gender, sexual orientation, race, physical ability, class, social status, or other characteristics. If someone has vocalized that your presence makes them uncomfortable you will be preemptively asked not to attend by the organizers of the event, or asked to leave at the space. We work with Chicago Feminist Writers & Artists to support the safety of our space.

Painted in 2010 the mural was damaged by some poor weather while drying. The mural is slated to be fixed and completed by the original artists this summer of 2013. There is nothing more pleasing than creating a work of art that can be lived with. Displaying works in a public space is a matter of great honor and duty. It is through thoughtful concept building coupled with care towards the creative process that a wall for the community is formed. Our approach is to transform an artistic opportunity into a visual message that will act as a civic conduit for positive energy. Home, it is the place we come to live and to love. It is where growth and investments flourish. It is where respect and care resides. Be it where we are coming from or where we are aiming to go, the concept of home travels universally for each of us on a personal level. It is ours, it is yours, and it is mine. These familiar sentiments are why we care for our homes. Walls serve the functional purpose of creating shelter. In the same respect, they can be utilized for emotional, aesthetic good. Our mural serves as a visual expansion of the home to include the neighborhood. It raises awareness and is a reminder that our public space is where we live as well. It is a welcome‐mat inviting life, love, growth, investment, respect and care. It’s these characteristics of home that lend themselves towards thriving and prosperous communities. Home... a simple idea really. It is where the heart is.
The Illinois Centennial Memorial Column, also known as the Logan Square Monument, is the proud centerpiece of Chicago's Logan Square community. Built in 1918 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Illinois' statehood, the Monument has become a community gathering space for socializing, recreation and quiet contemplation. Just as the Monument serves as our community town hall, this page is a community forum to discuss issues facing the Monument and the broader Logan Square community.
