THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: FOR 2- 5-YEAR-OLDS At Montclare, we believe that a teacher-guided, balanced approach establishes an excellent educational foundation, providing the skills children need for Kindergarten and future learning. Our teachers scaffold opportunities for our students to problem solve, learn conflict resolution and manage frustration and expectations. Learning to transition, follow routines and engage in cooperative play, children build confidence and independence, becoming more willing to take appropriate risks. Our teachers encourage meaningful interactions and friendships, further boosting a child’s secure sense of self. At Montclare we support the growth of the whole child. Through inquiry, discussion and exploration our program fosters reflective thinking, and increasingly abstract reasoning. Our curriculum promotes logical thinking by introducing skills in context and providing concrete materials. The acquisition of knowledge bolsters self-esteem, and learning with others greatly enhances social intelligence. Furthermore, both in and out of the classroom, physical development is an integral part of each day including a series of fine-motor activities, sensory and gross–motor play, as well as participation in dance, movement, yoga, PE and gymnastics.

River Park Nursery School is an Upper West Side parent co-op. It was founded by UWS parents seeking an early childhood experience that would reflect the diversity of the creative and integrated neighborhood. That is still in existence today. Parents seeking involvement with their child's Pre k or nursery school experience are very pleased with the cooperative, creative and diverse aspects of this school. We accept families on a first come first serve basis. We do not choose families, families choose us. We feel the choice should be that of the parents. River Park is based on a friendly philosophy and nurturing approach to early childhood while maintaining age appropriate academic standards. RPNS has a huge sunlit indoor space with multiple areas for children to explore their own interests. It has a private block long outdoor playground with varied large motor activities for children to engage in. Our mission is to maintain a high quality, integrated program based on play, which is the learning platform for all children. The experienced teaching team ensures a balance between intellectual, social/emotional, creative and physical experiences. They use a multi-sensory, language based, interdisciplinary approach to achieve the balance. This balance and approach cultivates a loving and joyful climate for all to thrive in. It is truly an opportunity for all connected to River Park to work together and achieve the perfect experience for all of our children.

Started in 2003 at the suggestion of a 5-year-old boy, The New York Says Thank You Foundation has grown into one of the Nation’s leading organizations to transform the 9/11 Anniversary into a positive, hands-on platform for national volunteer service. Each year on the 9/11 Anniversary, The New York Says Thank You Foundation sends hundreds of volunteers from New York along with disaster survivors from around the country to help rebuild communities around the United States recovering from disaster. It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for all the love and support Americans from across the country extended to New Yorkers in the days, weeks, and months following September 11. The secret to our growing “Pay It Forward” movement is very simple: What we do is about 9/12.
Our flagship program, the Penny Harvest, grew from one child’s desire to feed the homeless and her father’s commitment to experiential education. Now in its 21st year, the program continues to empower children from preschool to high school — in every life circumstance — to become socially engaged philanthropists. Students have collected over $10 million in pennies, awarded over 23,870 grants, and volunteered over 45 million service hours to support causes for children, the environment, health care, human rights, the elderly, and disaster relief.
