The Leslie S. Wright Fine Arts Center at Samford University on behalf of Samford Arts brings the finest in performing arts to the Samford campus, and also features outstanding performances from Samford University students. The Wright Center is home to the Alabama Ballet, Opera Birmingham, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's SuperPOPS Series and the Alabama Dance Festival.
The Pete Hanna Center is the building housing the 4,974-seat Thomas E. and Marla H. Corts Arena on the campus of Samford University in Homewood (a suburb of Birmingham), in the U.S. state of Alabama.It is home to the Samford Bulldogs basketball and volleyball teams, having replaced Seibert Hall. The facility opened in October 2007 and is named for Pete Hanna, the owner, president and chief executive officer of Hanna Steel Corporation. The arena is named for Thomas and Marla Corts, former president and first lady of Samford University.The Pete Hanna Center opened on October 18, 2007 with a lecture by best-selling author Walter Isaacson. The 101000sqft Hanna Center seats 5,000 in Corts Arena and is the home to Samford University Commencement, as well as playing host to concerts, high school basketball, conferences and a yearly stop from the Harlem Globetrotters. A record crowd of 5,116 watched the Samford men's basketball team take on Davidson College on January 31, 2009. The Hanna Center also contains a workout facility for students, faculty and staff, athletics offices, locker rooms, athletic training and strength and conditioning facilities.
The McWhorter School of Pharmacy is an American pharmacy school located in Birmingham, Alabama. The school offers a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree, and is nationally-accredited by the ACPE.HistoryMcWhorter was established January 31, 1927 as the Howard College Department of Pharmacy, and is one of Samford University's ten schools. Seibert Stadium is a 6,700-seat multi-purpose stadium in Homewood, Alabama. It is home to the Samford University Bulldogs college football team. The facility opened in 1958 and is named for F. Page Seibert, who in 1961, donated money for the completion of the stadium. The largest crowd in stadium history was in 1994 when over 11,000 showed up to see Steve McNair and Alcorn State.The four-level Bashinsky Press Tower was completed before the 1989 season. This Georgian-Colonial structure contains complete facilities for print and electronic media on the third level, reserved seating for 51 guests on the second level, and a concession stand and restroom facilities on the ground floor. A partially covered film deck is located atop the facility, and an elevator serves all levels.At the same time, more than 200 theatre-type reserved seats were added in front of the press tower, bringing the seating capacity to 6,700. Aluminum seating replaced the original wooden seats. A scoreboard featuring an electronic matrix message board was added before the 1994 season.In fall 2005, the original grass surface was replaced with an LSR Blade Synthetic Surface. That surface was updated and replaced in the summer of 2014.In 2009, Samford added the Cooney Family Field House in the south end zone of the stadium. The field house holds a locker room, weight room, training room, equipment room, coaches offices and meeting rooms for the team.

Samford’s Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) department offers tracks in print journalism, broadcast and electronic journalism, public relations and advertising. The department also houses a film production minor and a sports media minor, as well as coursework in church media, social media and photojournalism. We believe that the best way to learn journalism is to practice journalism, so our classes are designed to be hands-on and production-focused. Under the instruction of our highly experienced faculty, our students will learn skills across all areas of modern mass media, allowing them to best compete for the top journalism jobs in the country.

ACLCE is a resource and training center dedicated to educating young citizens in civic knowledge in law and government. Since 1990, ACLCE has provided school and community based programs, including We the People (national constitutional law program), Teen Court (peer sentencing court), Play by the Rules (state and national law curriculum), Street Law (practical law and civic responsibilities) curriculum), and Civitas International.
The Department of History remains one of the cornerstone majors at Samford. The history major has remained popular despite increasing vocational pressures for students to concentrate on job training. Why? Here are a few reasons. First, as one of the core disciplines of the liberal arts, history provides a classic mode of learning. By studying the past, including primary and secondary source research, undergraduate majors learn to think with rigor, to write with clarity and precision, to organize and assess evidence, to analyze problems and interpret complex events. Other liberal arts and science disciplines can legitimately make a similar claim: by studying them students also learn how to learn, although each accomplishes this in a different way. History's special appeal, however, comes from its distinctive subject matter, the human past. Second, then, history is popular. It is interesting. It deals with real people and events, not abstractions. It offers a boundless variety for selecting favorite topics and pursuing personal interests. Everything has a history — nations, wars, ethnic groups, sexuality, jazz, gambling, postage stamps. History is visible everywhere in American society — theme parks, best-seller lists, cable programming, film epics, public controversy (Hiroshima exhibits, national school curriculum, Kennedy assassination). One of the best reasons to major in a subject is because you enjoy it and can continue to enjoy it after you graduate from Samford. Third, our faculty members lead the Howard College of Arts & Sciences in the number of teaching awards won and books published. Faculty members have specialties in a variety of geographical areas, historical periods, and topical interests: American, Legal, Asia, Latin America, Great Britain, Europe, Alabama, Civil Rights, Intellectual, Reformation, Folklore, and several others. You will learn from well-rounded, dedicated scholars who are nationally and internationally known experts in their respective fields. Finally, our faculty members take seriously the role of advisors and mentors. We work closely with students to help them achieve personal, academic, and career goals. Dr. Robinson works closely with students interested in Latin America, the New Latin American Scholars initiative, and those interested in careers in missions; Dr. Bass works closely with students interested in careers in law (he is the company historian for Balch & Bingham, one of the largest law firms in the South); Dr. Wallace works closely with those students interested in careers in the ministry and with the Fellows students. Our other faculty members are also committed mentors. A Word About Global Studies—the departments of History and World Languages and Cultures have developed an new major, “Global Studies,” which educates students to become well-informed citizens of the world, able to step into a variety of careers, through their humanities-based Samford major emphasizing history, language, and culture. Students will receive an overview of world history and culture, yet will also be able to customize this degree by including courses to focus on a particular area of the world, such as Europe, Latin America, or Asia. Students will be required to do an immersion experience that could take a variety of forms, including foreign mission work, study abroad, or internships abroad. This experience is intended to make a different culture come alive for the student and to allow them to translate their classroom–acquired knowledge into a different culture’s setting. This is one of the strengths of the new major. Students completing the major will be prepared to work in both governmental and non-governmental organizations internationally, or for American organizations with international ties. Students completing this major will not only have breadth of knowledge about global issues and questions, they will be advised to focus on one specific area of the world for depth of knowledge as well, so that their language, history, and culture courses will help them become experts in their chosen area of the world. A specific pathway associated with this degree is religious and missions work that would be done in areas of the world students study more specifically and in which they have their immersion experience.

In 1988 a group of Alabama civic leaders invested in the future of our state by creating an independent research organization to report objectively on issues important to improving the government of the state, cities, counties, and public schools. They realized that good state and local government is one of the keys to making Alabama a better place to live, work, and do business. To carry out this purpose they formed the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA). PARCA provides in-depth, objective analyses on topics ranging from Alabama’s public school performance to recommendations for the state’s budget process to understanding statewide ballot issues. We also work with state and local governments to help find solutions to their biggest challenges.

CURE at Samford is an individual entity of CURE International. CURE International is a network of charitable hospitals and surgical programs that delivers life-changing medical care and the good news of God's love to children and families with treatable conditions. Is has hospitals in 10 developing countries around the world that treat children with deformities, disabilities, and injuries. The purpose of CURE at Samford is to spread awareness about the CURE and the kids it treats, to raise funds to support these children, and to show God's love and mercy through the stories of the children. A prize to encourage and reward excellent American historical fiction is a natural element in our effort to make the rich history of America accessible to the educated general reader. The David J. Langum, Sr. Prize in American Historical Fiction is offered annually to the best book in American historical fiction that is both excellent fiction and excellent history. Any press may publish the work, with the exceptions that the book may not be self-published or published by a subsidized publisher. A prize and $1,000 honorarium is awarded every year for the best book in American Historical Fiction published in the preceding year. The Trust purchases many books and distributes them to the Selection Committee. However, any publisher or author may ensure our consideration by submitting a copy directly to us at the address indicated on our Contact page. The general deadline is December 1st for the entire year. If we wish to consider a book published in December we will ask the publisher for an advanced reading copy or proof pages. We issue shortlists of contenders in July and January of each year.

The UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative is a research partnership between Lakeshore Foundation and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Ultimately, the Collaborative seeks to improve the quality of life of individuals with physically disabling conditions through comprehensive rehabilitation and sport science research. This research focuses on the development and evaluation of new programmatic, policy, and service efforts, the development and validation of new supportive technologies, and the identification and advancement of meaningful alternatives that improve life for people who have or will face chronic disabling conditions. The Collaborative involves faculty, staff and students from various UAB departments; staff and members from Lakeshore; as well as community organizations. The Collaborative’s Exercise and Sport Science Research Lab and research team offices are located on the first floor of Lakeshore Foundation’s main building, just past the Fitness Center. The Collaborative has multiple on-going projects, including federally funded research, federally funded centers, military research, and sport science evaluations.

The Accessible Housing Coalition of Alabama (AHC) is an organization dedicated to giving persons with disabilities a voice and a platform to advocate the need for accessible housing and connect people to statewide resources and accessible housing options. We serve as a centralized hub of information for accessible housing, smart home technology, and universal design principles in Alabama for people with disabilities. Through our Access for ALL program, our goal is to create housing inventory that can be easily modified so that people with disabilities have more options for accessible housing that is dispersed and integrated into communities throughout the state. To accomplish this goal, we are currently building a strategic coalition of stakeholders to cooperatively develop certification criteria that will serve as the gold standard for accessible housing in the state of Alabama. Through our Access for ALL program, we will develop the gold standard for accessible housing in the state of Alabama. We will work side by side with inventory providers (builders, property managers, REALTORS®, and architects) to educate them about the benefits of accessible homes. We will create an official criteria and designation for certified accessible housing. We will serve as a voice for persons with disabilities who want, need, and deserve viable housing options. We will create an online inventory directory that lists all certified accessible housing and connects providers with potential residents.
