Subliminal Projects was created by artists Shepard Fairey and Blaze Blouin in 1995 as an artist collective, using skateboards as a fine art medium. By expanding beyond skateboards and apparel to include fine art prints, the group began drawing the attention of Aaron Rose, curator of Alleged Gallery in New York. As a result, Subliminal is one of the key groups responsible for cementing the relationship between the skateboard culture with the fine art world, working with then-unknown artists such as Phil Frost, Thomas Campbell, Mike Mills, Dave Aaron, and Mark Gonzales. By reintroducing Subliminal Projects to the current art scene, Shepard and Amanda Fairey continue to promote collaborations in the form of publications, art shows, and events between artists of varying disciplines.

Our Educational Equity work has helped achieve the following: Low-income Los Angeles public school students have 67,000 new classroom seats California has renovated more than a million education spaces in high-need communities California passed one of the nation's largest early education programs – expanding services to 120,000 four year olds The Water Cooler, a statewide network of 500 ECE advocates and providers, has been formed, ensuring more coordinated and successful policy interventions with the Legislature The voters set aside millions of dollars for ECE within the L.A. Unified School District (LAUSD) but it was reallocated to other uses – we worked in coalition to return $40 million of that funding to ensure that young children receive the education and care they need to succeed throughout life A state of the art preschool will be built in the single most under-served neighborhood in L.A. County, helping low-income children and families prepare for school
Our four interrelated programs include: Educational Equity: Ensures school facilities for all and expands educational opportunities for low-income children from birth through high school graduation. Equity in Public Funds: Reveals Significant discrepancies between the allocation of public funds and the needs of low-income communities and communities of color. Healthy City: Transforms how people access and use information about their communities. Healthy City is an information + action resource that unites community voices, rigorous research and innovative technologies to solve the root causes of social inequity. Urban Peace: Reduces and prevents community violence, making poor neighborhoods safer so that children can learn, families can thrive and communities can prosper.
Action Trees are one of Prepare the Future’s key strategies for building a powerful public voice. An Action Tree is an online community built by friends who share common values, including a commitment to quality public education for all children. A successful Action Tree will include at least 390 people who grow from a seed of 30 people identified by a participating organization. How does it work? A participating organization finds 30 friends, congregants, board members, family, co-workers or others. Those 30 will find just 3 friends each, adding 90 advocates to the Action Tree. Those 90 new advocates will each find 3 more friends, adding another 270. 30 + 90 + 270 = 390 child advocates recruited through each participating organization. The Four Commitments Each person in the Action Tree makes four simple commitments: 1.To Prepare The Future’s agenda of providing a quality public education for every child 2.To take one action per month in support of the agenda 3.To contribute annually to support Prepare The Future (suggested amount $20) 4.To find three friends who will make these same four commitments.
