The Santa Cruz Wharf is a wharf in Santa Cruz, California, United States, known for fishing, boat tours, viewing sea lions, dining, nightlife and gift shops. The current wharf was built in 1914, the last of six built on the site, and is operated by the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Office. The wharf is situated between Main Beach (which is adjacent to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk) and Cowell's Beach, on the westside of Santa Cruz City. With a length of 2745ft, it is the longest pier on the West Coast of the United States.A fish market on the wharf is featured in scenes from the film Sudden Impact.HistoryThe Santa Cruz Wharf opened on December 5, 1914. The original purpose of building the wharf was for shipping potatoes to San Francisco for mining camps in the Sierra Nevada during the Gold Rush. After the innovation of motor vehicles and improved land routes, the Wharf’s primary focus changed to be the base of the north Monterey Bay fishing industry. By the 1950s as Monterey Bay’s sardine and other fish populations dwindled, nearly every family owned a vehicle and had money to spend on recreation. As a result, the Santa Cruz Wharf became predominately a recreational destination. Today, the wharf is still a popular tourist attraction, nestled adjacent to the city's leading attraction, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Visitors flock to the wharf for a variety of restaurants, gift shops, wine tasting, candy stores, and just to stroll and peer down at the sea lions below. Annually, an estimated 1.5 million visitors come to the Santa Cruz Wharf to fish, shop, dine and sightsee.

As a student at the University of California in Santa Cruz I began my art training in 1991 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in scientific illustration. From 1994 through 2000 I studied with the printmakers Howard Ikemoto, Julie Connell, Paul Roehl and Karen Tossavainen at local college classes and workshops. Animals, botanicals, treescapes and scenics predominate - this is a direct result of my love of nature and my training in scientific illustration. This region offers an unlimited source of inspiration for field sketching, photography and plein air painting. I enjoy all facets of printmaking but my favorite technique is the most direct one – drypoint. The soft feathered lines, rich blacks and delicate nature that set this method apart are pleasing to me. Since this is a fragile technique the print runs are much smaller, which makes the image more fleeting and precious. Recently I have been exploring color printing and all of the exacting procedures involved in ink combinations and registration. Though the margin for error is greater than in other methods, the results are so much more vibrant than single-color printing. My work has been exhibited in numerous national art competitions as well as at venues such as The Monterey Museum of Art, The Bolinas Museum, The Springfield Museum and The Triton Museum. All of my print runs range from single monoprint to editions of fifty. My collection is well-archived and constantly growing. I live in Santa Cruz, California with my husband, Michael and our dog Izzy.

It is exercise which develops alignment to principles of innate wholeness. At the center of all Traditional Japanese Cultural Arts, from martial arts to tea ceremony, is the concept of training of the mind a body to allow the freedom of spirit to come through. In this creative process we use the format of large format painting to develop muscles of connecting to inner of images by trusting, playing with materials ans turning off the critic in the initial process, which allows a strong sense of presence. "Anavami" is a Sanskrit word meaning exalted.
