Manhattan School for Children was founded in the early 1990s through a cooperative effort of parents, teachers and staff members of NYC's Community School District 3. It is a school of choice, open to children who are zoned for District 3. Since that time, MSC's educators and parents have worked to build and maintain a school community in which students of different racial/ethnic, socio-economic, as well as physical and academic abilities, come together to celebrate multiple ways of knowing the world and each other. Our student-centered, project-based, pedagogical focus and instructional program is unique and grounded in the philosophy of a "COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS." THE PHILOSOPHY OF OUR SCHOOL Children learn by doing. Children learn at different rates, using different strengths and different learning styles. Children learn about the world in an integrated way. Art is crucial to children's development. It is undervalued in our society and underfunded in our schools. I believe it is vital to foster and cultivate creativity in children through drawing and painting. These techniques will allow for individual expression is now more important in our increasingly digital world. Simple artistic activities are integral building blocks of child development. Art has proven to develop the following areas in young children: MOTOR SKILLS LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT DECISION MAKING VISUAL LEARNING CULTURAL AWARENESS IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE S.P.A.R.K. was created to foster that the same passion for art with the next generation. As early as age 4, I was on the floor drawing. That seed was given life by exposure to the arts as I grew up. I fondly remember art classes being the best part of school where I learned the various medium and methods. In addition to technique and form, I want to expose the children to the most famous artists of our time. Living in New York City, we are extremely fortunate to have access to some of the greatest works of art in the world, which will be a part of my unique curriculum. I'm bringing a completely new approach to after school programs as well as Saturday mornings!

Over 7 years experience teaching math and history in the New York City Department of Education. Experienced in multiple teaching styles and catering to students of all levels. I do not just do homework with students. I learn the specific curriculum the student is following, and design instruction to increase student learning. Homework can be used to practice that instruction when appropriate.
The Center for Somatic Studies was formally organized in 2000 to meet the needs of both the psychotherapy and somatic education communities. It brings together diverse groups of psychotherapists, health practitioners, body workers, yoga teachers, infant educators, and other students of human potential through a variety of courses, workshops, and the two-year Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy training program. The center reflects an interdisciplinary path that many schools of psychology and body-oriented therapies have been exploring to further their understanding of human development. The Center for Somatic Studies was founded and is directed by Ruella Frank who has been teaching in the field of movement education since the mid-1970s and has taught gestalt psychotherapy theory and practice since 1986.
