International Discipleship Trips at Watermark, we believe that we’re all “on mission”. Life is a long-term mission. And, every day and every appointment is a short-term mission opportunity. God’s Word makes it clear that we should love God and love and serve others. It’s our job to share the love of Christ with people we see every day – whether you’re in Dallas, Texas or half-way across the world. In response to Christ’s directive to spread His Good News around the world, we use a multi-faceted approach in helping reach today’s world. Our church takes a servant approach in equipping and supporting various indigenous ministries that have proven effective in their own culture. We encourage members to serve abroad. In addition we seek to involve our church in projects to communicate the Gospel and share our resources worldwide. Update on Discipleship Trips to Haiti: Over the past year we have looked in Haiti to find partners who are trustworthy Christ followers committed to “serving the least of these” in that country through the local Haitian church. That search has led us to a Haitian ministry called Mission of Hope-Haiti. Over the next couple of months we will complete the vetting process we use for evaluating all our External Focus partners and refine our own discipleship program for leading our body before, during, and after these trips. At that point we will start to plan trips for the fall of 2011 and the spring of 2012 for folks who are interested in going on a short term (one week) discipleship trip. Please look for updates on the External Focus blog, “Watermark in Haiti” on facebook, and in the Watermark news in late May or early June.

INTRODUCTION: The MISSION is a Christian Bible Church for children and youth (and their families) within multi-housing (apartment) communities to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ through weekly Bible studies, Sunday worship, discipling, mentoring, fun, fellowship, and educational tutoring and assistance. FOCUS: To reach low income children, youth and their families within apartment communities who are unable or apprehensive to attend an established church community. We believe that by reaching the children and youth, that they in turn will reach their parents and others within their community. WHY: There is a need to provide a distinctly local church community within many low income families of apartment communities who are unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ due to lack of travel accommodations – or whose children and youth are unable to experience Christian based activities of fun, fellowship and discipling because their parents’ work schedules do not permit them the opportunity to travel to an established church. Additionally, some are apprehensive in attending due to ethnic differences and/or a sense of discomfort or fear in attending a large church organization. This need is an opportunity for the established churches and other Christian ministries to “go” and “make disciples” within our unreached local communities. MISSION & PURPOSE: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20) Jesus Christ through His gospel commands that we are to “Go” into the nations (communities) to bring the message of the Good News of His salvation. But salvation is not the goal – it is only the first step towards the goal, which is to “make disciples.” This requires long-term relationship building and commitment to the work of ministry. VISION FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH: “Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) VISION FOR LEADERS: “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.” (1 Timothy 4:6) LONG TERM OBJECTIVE: To establish several communities of biblically based churches within various local multi-housing communities, with the express purpose of raising up disciples of Jesus Christ and to continue the work of the great commission He has ascribed to all Christian believers.
