Assembly Republicans are the last line of defense for hard-working taxpayers at the State Capitol. We are fighting on your behalf to: ■Get Californians back to work by encouraging private sector job creators to come back to our state and hire workers here; ■Balance the budget by reducing overspending and making state government more efficient and effective for the taxpayers it serves; ■End business as usual at the State Capitol through common-sense reforms that make government accountable to the people again; ■Provide that every child has the education they deserve for a bright future; ■Protect public safety and ensure that no one has to live in fear in their own home or local community; and ■Reject painful tax increases that will hurt working families and job creators alike. Vision: Caring today for a safe and healthy tomorrow. Mission: Providing evaluation and treatment in a safe and responsible manner, seeking innovation and excellence in hospital operations, across a continuum of care and settings. Goals: Safe environment. Responsible stewardship. Excellence in forensic evaluation. Excellence in treatment. Who are our patients? Most patients in state hospitals are mandated for treatment by a criminal court judge. Up to 90 percent of our patients were sent to us through the criminal court system and have committed or have been accused of committing a crime linked to their mental illness. The remainder of the department’s patient population has been committed in civil court because they are a danger to themselves or others. These patients commonly referred to as Lanterman-Petris-Short commitments, can be held 72 hours for mental health evaluation and treatment. Department of State Hospitals Facebook Policy and Practices Thank you for being a fan of the Department of State Hospitals on Facebook. The department participates in Facebook in order to inform members of the public about the work that is being done every day inside of state hospitals. We believe our work is important to the people of California and this page will offer a glimpse into the difficult and necessary jobs that our employees do every single day of the year. We welcome people to use this venue as a space on the intranet to have discussions about mental health in a respectful manner. However, because we are a hospital system, the Department of State Hospitals must always protect the personal privacy of all of our 6,000 patients. These rights are outlined in both federal and state laws. The Department of State Hospitals does not necessarily agree with or endorse every comment that individuals post on our pages. Our goal is to share ideas and information. All comments and posts to this page will be reviewed. The department will use its own discretion on whether or not a comment will be shared. Comment containing the following will never be shared: • Hate speech • Profanity, obscenity or vulgarity or nudity • Defamation of a person or people • Name calling or personal attacks • Comments made with the intent of selling a product • Comments infringing on the rights of someone’s intellectual property or personal privacy • Chain mail (examples: Share this post if you agree with X or Like this post if you agree with Y) Repeated violations may cause the author to be blocked from the Department of State Hospitals Facebook page.
