The Center for Oral Health* (COH), founded in 1985, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public oral health, with a focus on children and vulnerable populations. COH collaborates with national, state, and local partners to develop innovative community-based strategies for improving oral health outcomes. COH has offices in Northern and Southern California.
Humanity is using more resources than the Earth can provide. We are in global ecological overshoot. According to Global Footprint Network’s calculations, our annual demand for renewable ecological resources and the services they provide is now equivalent to that of more than 1.5 Earths. The data shows us on track to require the resources of two planets well before mid-century. An essential step in creating a one-planet future is measuring human impact on the Earth so we can make more informed choices. Just as a bank statement tracks income against expenditures, Global Footprint Network measures humanity’s demand for and supply of natural resources and ecological services. We use a three-pronged strategy for launching our work. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, & INITIATION. RESEARCH Through our partners, we identify inner-cities that are ripe to experience sustainable change. By dispatching our research team, we meet the right people and ask the right questions to determine whether strategic coordination would empower the city to change. DEVELOPMENT We build relationships with the existing leaders in both the non-profit and for-profit sector, coordinating a strategic plan for organizations and enterprises to work together through what we call, Empower Campaigns. Through this development process, we identify opportunities to build capacity within the coalition of good will. INITIATION Launch Empower Campaigns that invests in best-practice organizations through coaching collaborative strategy and financial resources, support outcomes by aligning programmatic response with opportunities for social enterprising, and build capacity within coalition of good will by providing learning labs and immersion experiences that raise awareness and ownership of the causes.
The program employs young people who have experienced parental incarceration as the primary curriculum content developers and facilitators for trainings.

At The Seasteading Institute, we believe that experiments are the source of all progress: to find something better, you have to try something new.
