Nestled in the heart of East Harlem, The Poet's Den Theater and Gallery have established a cultural center for the East Harlem community and beyond to gather and participate in arts enjoyment. The founders rescued this once-abandoned building and transformed it into a haven where creative energy abounds and where artists engage in multidisciplinary expressions. The vintage furniture and decor juxtapose a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system to harmonize the theater's old-world-style and charm. This multi-sensory environment is designed to delight audiences with a pleasing and fulfilling entertainment experience. Many theater performances, readings, and poetic expressions have received public acclaim from discerning audiences and media. As well as movies, shorts, documentaries that have also been screened for public and private audiences. The two spaces provide a complete entertainment experience where audiences delight from the live shows or movies offered and then retire to the gallery space for fellowship/networking, exhibit displays and receptions. The gallery offers local, national and international artist opportunities to showcase their work. El Taller Latino Americano (The Latin American Workshop) is a 501(c)(3) community-based non-profit arts and education institution founded in New York City in 1979 to bridge the gap between Latin Americans and North Americans through the language of art, dance and music. El Taller is located at 225 W. 99th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam at St. Michael's Church) and offers its community a varied menu of Spanish and English language classes, arts programming, music and that seek not only to educate, but to engage and gather diverse groups together culturally and linguistically on the common ground of creativity. In addition to these efforts, the studio features prominently the unique fine restorations and interpretative designs of Jonathan Chánduví, a third generation restorer who collaborates with New York’s finest interior designers to revive Old World decorative arts. Founded in 1825, the National Academy is the only institution of its kind that integrates a museum, art school and association of artists and architects dedicated to creating and preserving a living history of American art and architecture. The Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery opened its doors in September of 2011 at the Silberman School of Social Work Building. The gallery offers a space for partnerships between different departments and academic disciplines within our larger college communities. It presents exhibitions and public events that aim to foster academic collaboration at Hunter College while addressing subjects relevant to the East Harlem community and larger socially engaged subject matter. Our exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public.

Art In FLUX creates opportunity for artists, brings art into public spaces, creates a positive use for underutilized spaces and stimulates a vibrant neighborhood by merging art, commerce and community.
