We formed in 2002 with the unwavering goal to create standout work with exceptional people… and to have a lot of fun along the way. A long road and many years later, we find ourselves fortunate enough to marry our diverse interests with our global family to collaborate on the work we are passionate about the most. We offer best in class services on all imaginable types of VFX for features, commercials and new media. In 2014 we launched Luma Toons, which expands on our roots, to a more lovable direction - producing animated content. Luma Made combines the strengths of our artists, strategists and writers to create original content. And in 2015 we expanded once again to incorporate more of our passions into our everyday lives with Luma Launch: an independent multi-million dollar fund that enables us to accelerate and incubate notable start-ups across the tech and media worlds. Santa Monica High School, officially abbreviated to Samohi, is located in Santa Monica, California. Founded in 1884, it changed location several times in its early years before settling into its present campus at 601 Pico Boulevard. It is a part of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.HistoryThe "new" campus opened in 1906 with one building, the current History building, with an enrollment of 50 students. The school sits on the hilltop between 4th and 7th Sts. and Pico and Olympic Blvds., from which one can see the Pacific Ocean. Ten years later the campus was expanded with construction of the English building. In 1921, the Open Air Memorial Theater (now called the Greek Amphitheatre) was built to honor the Santa Monicans who served in World War I. One of the best examples of the classical Greek style in Southern California, the amphitheater was built after Santa Monica passed a $30,000 bond measure to fund its construction. Barnum Hall Theater, originally called "the Auditorium," was built in 1937 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to be the Civic Auditorium of Santa Monica and host school events as well. The campus also added six buildings during this period: the Language, English, Business, History, Administration and Music buildings. In 1952, Santa Monica High School was finally expanded to what it is now, 33acre, and two new buildings were built, the Science and Technology D.M. buildings. As the school aged, renovations took place in Barnum Hall and the Music building was completely rebuilt. As of February, 2015, a new Science and Technology Building -known as the Innovation Building- has been constructed along with an outdoor gathering space called Centennial Plaza. On September 10, 2015 during "Back to School Night" the Innovation Building was unveiled to the public.
A revolution in American Theater began in the early 1920's after the Moscow Art Theater toured the United States. Never before had audiences seen performances of such raw power, realism, and emotional truth. By 1930 the Group Theater formed to import this revolution and the "Stanislavski System" that inspired it. The Group Theater became the most respected and influential theater company in American history, assembling such luminaries as Harold Clurman, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Clifford Odets, Morris Carnovsky and Sanford Meisner. It also produced three of the most important and influential acting teachers of the Twentieth Century in Adler, Strasberg, and 'Sandy' Meisner. Sandy Meisner taught at the legendary Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City for more than 50 years. His students include Paul Newman, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Joanne Woodward, Eli Wallach, Anne Jackson, and Steve McQueen. He defined acting as doing things truthfully under imaginary circumstances and created a technique that is still known for its depth, reliability and balanced approach. Joanne Baron studied under Sandy Meisner in his private class. William Esper, head teacher at the Playhouse for 14 years, eventually formed the William Esper Studio in New York City. One of his students, Joanne Baron, continued to study under Esper for seven years, and then began her own school in New York to immediate acclaim. Today, the Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown Studio in Santa Monica, California, continues this legacy, teaching the same body of work that Meisner and Esper taught - a specific, training program designed to create an emotionally alive actor of depth, imagination, and truth.
