Voted St. Louis's best hot dogs & mac in cheese in the Riverfront Times! We are St. Louis's premier hot dog joint - legendary because of our amazing tastes and creative food collaborations. The Tower Grove location opened after fans and customers helped raise $15,000 to renovate the space. The location opened in collaboration with Tick Tock Tavern - a St Louis classic that shares the space - offering a vintage setting and incredible hand-crafted drinks. We take the time to hickory smoke all of our dogs and sausages. Then we open fire grill them for a very unique taste. We also serve soups, chili and a delicious smoked Italian Pit Beef sandwich! By sourcing local ingredients we can celebrate the abundant resources of Greater St. Louis area, while supporting the local community and economy. The Block also pays homage to traditional butchery work by performing primary and secondary butchery of locally procured livestock in house. We offer a full-service meat counter complemented by artisanal accoutrements that allows you to take fresh cuts home to craft locally-inspired meals on your own. The Block is an inviting, community gathering space that delivers an enchanting dining experience, accompanied by locally acquired and handcrafted cocktails.
Some visitors have commented that our hours seem a bit odd and that sometimes we are closed when they arrive. I'd like to explain so that our visitors understand why that sometimes occurs. Mama Josephine's is all about my mom. The restaurant is a tribute to her; a way of showing my love for her and sharing her wonderful recipes. It is a small place where hospitality is one of the spices we use in every dish. It is a small place though; too small to sustain a decent income for my staff if I were to draw any type of income from it. Because I am a research scientist and have other obligations at times, and occasionally my staff has to be out for some reason, the restaurant is closed during what for us would be normal business hours. We always put a message on the phone, post to FB, and on Nextdoor so that our visitors can be made aware when this occurs. I know it's a pain, but please understand. I want to share my mom's wonderful food and we make every effort to be there if at all possible, but sometimes it just can't happen. Thank you for your continued visits and for sharing your time with us. Happy Eating! Mary
