W-I-P/Works In Progress
Distance: 1.1 mi Competitive Analysis
710 Fredericksburg Rd
San Antonio, TX 78201

W-I-P Works-in-Progress is a unique dance and movement based lab. W-I-P utilizes Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process to aid artists in developing their work. W-I-P is a long-running collaboration with Jump-Start Performance Co. WIP provides a low-tech opportunity to receive feedback on movement- based work that is new or in progress. It is a innovative choreography development program created not only to facilitate the development of new works by dance artists but also to establish a dialogue between the dancer, choreographer, and audience. Artists are encouraged to present new works and to take part in an affirming, facilitated discussion based on choreographer Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process. Steps of the Liz Lerman Critical Response Process: 1.Statements of Meaning: Responders state what was meaningful, evocative, interesting, exciting, striking in the work they have just witnessed. 2.Artist as Questioner: The artist asks questions about the work. After each question, the responders answer. Responders may express opinions if they are in direct response to the question asked and do not contain suggestions for changes. 3.Neutral Questions: Responders ask neutral questions about the work. The artist responds. Questions are neutral when they do not have an opinion couched in them. For example, if you are discussing the lighting of a scene, “Why was it so dark?” is not a neutral question. “What ideas guided your choices about lighting?” is. 4. Opinion Time: Responders state opinions, subject to permission from theartist. The usual form is “I have an opinion about ______, would you like to hear it?” The artist has the option to decline opinions for any reason. (We do not usually do this step) WIP is held 7pm at the Jump-Start Performance Company (710 Fredericksburg, San Antonio, TX 78201) on the last Wednesday of the month. Rules and Guidelines:There is no age limit for WIP, but the work must be the artist's own. Choreographer or creating artist must be present (if there are special circumstances, please let coordinators know before scheduling). Choreographers will be paid an honorarium for participation and will receive a video of their performance. WIP does not grant comp tickets to friends or family of performers. WIP is a low cost event ($3-$5) and all funds go back into the program. Preference will be given to San Antonio artists, though out of town artists are welcome to apply. You must fill out the Confirmation form to secure your spot. You must prepare at least 2 questions for the audience (step 2 of CRP) Photo Requirements: Photo must be 300 dpi and a minimum of 4” x 6”. No photos with watermarks or signatures will be accepted. Try using freeware IrfanView app to resize photos http://www.irfanview.com Artist should make sure that photos are shot close up. Photos where the artist is too far from the camera is not visually pleasing or effective on marketing materials. It also helps if there isn’t too much background clutter. Flags for America
Distance: 1.1 mi Competitive Analysis
PO Box 691107
San Antonio, TX 78269

Flags for America is a non-profit organization. It's goal is to go across America and replace old, worn out, tattered American flags that are on flag poles of businesses' and residential houses, and replace them with brand new, donated flags. The old American flags will be disposed of properly as per National Flag Foundation standards. They will be locally brought to a Veterans of Foreign Wars or American Legion location so they can be disposed of the proper way. All Flags for America asks from you is to donate an American flag (the Federal Flag Code is pretty silent when it comes to the size of the American flag, so sizes can vary. They just want the flags to equal the same size of other flags that are flown underneath it) to this organization. Once donated, Flags for America will either find a business or residential address that it notices should replace their American flag with a new one. If the business/property owners accept the donation, your donated flag will replace the old one and will be flown from a flag pole. With the property owner/business consent, Flags for America will take a picture of your donated flag, waving freely in the air, and post both the picture and the address of where your donated flag went. Any questions or comments, please feel free to ask through Facebook posts on our page or by messaging us. Thank you for your donations.
