Penelope is a cafe, bakery, and bar. It is also a worn-in welcome mat, your favorite flip flops, and a hug when you are missing home. The home cooking is prepared with the best ingredients and a little creativity by a loving kitchen; it is a refreshing take on mom's recipes and is delivered to you here just the same, always with a smile and an encouragement to relax. Penelope opened its doors in 2003 to a warm and welcoming neighborhood. It is owned and created by Jennifer Potenza and was built with love and a lot of patience by her partner, Michael Tsoumpas. Penelope is a quilt of all the places Jenny has had the pleasure of working. She has bussed clam shacks in Cape Cod, had flour fights in Bozeman bakeries, made deli sandwiches in Montauk, brewed urns of coffee in Chelsea, has tattooed burns from a West Village kitchen and stained shirts from cocktailing in the east village. She’s poured the best Italian wines at the best Italian sandwich shop on Bedford St., managed a town coffee shop outside of Boston, and has parked it for now at 30th & Lex where she is currently surrounded by a team of managers and hardworking staff that she and Penelope could not live without. Currently, Penelope is under the operation of Lukus “maneater” Hasenstab who first joined the quilt in 2004 as a server. Over the 20 years he has been with us he has brought a high level of organization, sobriety, and competence to the team that is invaluable. His leadership and his dedication are why Penelope still has its shell. His wing-woman and beverage director, Allison "git ‘er dun” Garskof has also been with us since 2004 and has signed on as a life coach for Jenny and the turtle, to whom her love, creativity, employee direction, and dance moves are invaluable. We have the support of an amazing neighborhood, to which we are always trying to give our best, and also sparkly regulars who make the heart of Penelope beat. And sparkle. Thank you for giving us purpose. Penelope is their turtle and is seen by appointment only.

42nd Street–Bryant Park/Fifth Avenue is an underground New York City Subway station complex, consisting of stations on the IRT Flushing Line and IND Sixth Avenue Line, formerly without direct connection, now connected by a pedestrian tunnel. Located at 42nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in Manhattan, it is served by the: 7, D, and F trains at all times B and M trains on weekdays train on weekdays in the peak direction Free transfers between the two stations were available on Mondays to Fridays from December 18, 1967, until 1968, by providing paper tickets to passengers, who would exit one station and follow the sidewalk in order to enter the other. The tunnel now permits leaving a train in one station and walking underground to one in the other, and takes away the need for transfer tickets. The entire station complex was fully renovated in 1998. There are three elevators to street level – one each located on the southwestern and northwestern corners of Sixth Avenue and 42nd Street, and one on the northwestern corner of Sixth Avenue and 39th Street – but there are no elevators to either platform level, so the station complex is not ADA-accessible.

OUR BEREAVEMENT SERVICES Child, Teen, and Family We offer comprehensive bereavement services in New York City. Our goal is to meet a child and family in a caring environment. In particular, in our group program , we focus on remembering, coping, and community building - the essential components of grief work. It is hoped that all children and teens have a life filled with joy and happiness. Yet for some, their lives are forever changed at a young age when they experience the unfortunate death of a significant person from disasters such as fire, illnesses such as cancer, or human acts of violence. By some estimates, 90% of students will experience the loss of a family member before finishing high school and it is believed that up to 5% of all children experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they finish high school. a death there is often sadness, confusion, isolation, guilt, or even shame. For some young people, grief left unaddressed can lead to hopelessness, acting out, and poor school performance. No child or family should feel they are alone in their grief when facing the challenge of life without a cherished loved . We are here to help family members learn emotionally healthy ways to live after the pain of someone’s death. The main program components of the Bereavement Services include: Group support: Our 10 week peer group support program for children and teens and their caregivers runs in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The program is based on common bereavement tasks and is co-facilitated by trained volunteers and mental health professionals. Individual evaluation and help: We evaluate bereaved individuals to assess how best to meet their needs. Services and referrals are tailored to meet the specific needs of family members. Outreach: We do outreach to individuals, schools, and organizations to provide information about services and recruit clients and group leaders.
